The US isn't promoting it's population to enter illegaly into another country...Secondly, a statement about knowing the world coming from a Brit is after all, funny!!!! Thanks for the problems in the middle east since Britain divided up that part of the world in the 1900's, thanks for all the colonialism, thanks for allowing the US to fight to defend you....Thanks!!! If Americans are so rotten, then why did you move here? Why haven't you left? Why shouldn't the US close it's borders, kick the UN out, and not be involved in the world? Let's see how far that goes when the money dries up and the world doesn't have someone to come to the rescue!!!! Is that history enough for you????

You can't see the irony in suggesting that a foreign government stays out of US domestic issues? Really, you people should read more, learn more about history, get out and see more of the world.

This is another particularly vacous argument. Because I am from the UK means automatically that I represent the views that led to all the 'bad' things that have come out of the UK. Or the, if you don't like it hear go home argument. Come on, grow up!

So the US government isn't promoting illegal entry into other countries, but it is certainly persuing some highly questionable foreign policies.

Oh, and while we are at it, let's see if you can give me one good reason whey "habeus corpus" has been suspended in the USA? Very democratic.

Seriously, if you don't like it exercise the rights America has provided you so far and leave. And what does Habeus Corpus have to do with illegal immigration anyway? Except the illegal terrorists that may be here, and as defined by the UN, they are not a military, nor are they entitled to the Geneva Conventions afforded true members of a nations military. All you have posted here is a dream, one in which if people can just talk about things all the world will be rosy. Just as the UK has the right to protect it's borders, so does America. And yes you are accusing all Americans of being pigs and such when you suggest that we are the problem in the world...

"And there we have it, the rational that prompts most of you 'get the illegals outa here' argument. Essentially, you have your cake and you want to eat it, regardless of the harm your culture/consumarism does to the rest of the world.

The US is full of you wonderful upright citizens. My mind boggles at your one dimensional personalities and you're "I'm alright Jack" mentality. Oh, and even better than that, you like to dabble in external politics tell other nationalities how to behave and try to bully them into a behaviour or religious belief that conforms with the American view of the world, but only if in doing so the US gets some benefit...like say oil.

It's easy to be contented in your fat cat society and pour scorn on the lesser mortals who don't have the 'high morality' that you do.

Luckily, in real life not all Americans behave like this, or have such shallow beliefs.

Be thankful you, who are so passionate about the scurge of the illegals, have nothing more pressing to worry about in your day to day life.

Oh, I know my words don't affect you, still, maybe one day, more people will try to view the whole world as their home and not some abitrary piece of land they happen to have been born in."

Also, I was interested in the illegal immigration issue long before I started this process or even met my wife, so don't presume that I or anyone else wasn't either. Furthermore, you can stop with the snips towards peoples opinions on immigration in the USA. This is OUR problem (until you are naturalized). I just love how the rest of the world thinks they know America, and how rudely they are awakened when America gets pissed off and decides to fight back...

Build a f#cking wall!!!
It's obvious that you have no real argument because everytime someone, myself included, calls you on your B.S., you resort to name calling and insults....Are the people you meet wearing white coats and carrying "candy" for all the patients..???

Said like a true NIMBI!

Congratulations, it's people like you that give the US a bad name in the rest of the world.

Luckily for me, the Americans I encounter in day to day life are really rather pleasant people.

Please continue to believe that agression and wall building solves your problems.

I will second all of it! Rellik! MA Wilson he gave the arguement and hibiscus called him a nimbi, that is what is showing no arguement!

Lets PRETEND Hibiscus, Me and ten of my buddies open the gate to your front yard and begin a good ol game of badmitton, what you gonna do Hmmmmmmmmmmm let us play? or tell us to leave and get OFF your property! Im sure you would be running out there with a cold six pack asking if you could play!

You can beat this drum all you like, the fact is if there was more thought put into resolving problems than closing doors the world would be a better place.

How about this, you and your buddies came along and start playing in my front yard and instead of my losing my temper and ordering you off my property, I ask you why you need to play there in the first place. Maybe then a more permanant solution might be reached.

Name calling? NIMBI? If the cap fits.

However, what is sad is that you think you have proved your argument.

Show me how building a wall, or any of these bullish measures you are proposing are actually effective in curbing illegal immigration?

Show me how it's a mistake to try to look beyond platitudes and try to address the issues the cause the problems?

Show me why the idea of looking for an effective long term solution, however cockeyed it may seem to you, is somehow bs just becuase you say so?

You don't have to engage with me, however, I hope some of the other readers of this thread do stop to wonder if there aren't other ways of dealing with these issues that actually solve the problem instead of simply beating the nationalism drum once again.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Imagine that.....Steven's about soil himself over finding a partner in his quest for the annihilation of borders and the establishment of a one-world government....

Sure will be nice to kill off all of those pesky cultural identities, won't it?

You WILL be assimilated.

In the first place nothing I could say would change your mind! when I gave you the example of ten of my freinds coming and invading your yard, you said you would ask me why I had to play there! Okay maybe we should have all border patrol agents do the purple habiscus border solutions bill, run around wildly asking why they cant go somewhere else, Gee I think you got a winner there,I think it just might work! and maybe we could drop leaflets that say we love you but cant you please just not come here, and attach the leaflets to jugs of water and some food! and maybe a check for $200.00, YEP YEP KOOLAID!

I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you are arguing that in order to maintain cultural identity we have to put up walls?

It is certainly true that the there is a blurring around the edges when societies assimilate and I don't think there's any law that is going to stop that happening.

Am I promoting the illimination of borders? No, I am arguing that there might be ways of making borders less volatile if, as a world society we were more ready to explore commonalities than exploit differences.

Yes, my view isn't exactly right of center but I am still waiting for the proof that building walls achieves anything except complacency for those on the 'green' side of the wall.

Lets assume by pure ignorance that the only crime Joe Illegal Alien commits is that of crossing illegally, lets say Joe doesn't work while he is here, doesn't drive

doesn't put any children in school, or take advantage of free medical care. doesn't traffic drugs, pays no taxes because he doesn't work.

Lets assume that Joe simply lurks around USA soil for years and does nothing more than be a honest hard working Volunteer.

5 years later Joe falls in love with Jane who is a legal Citizen

they get married and now Joe wants to work for the 1st time in 5 years and wants his GC.

well Joe finds out as if he did not already know, that he can not get GC having entered Illegally.

So good samritan Joe must return to his country of origin and enter legally then apply for AOS/ GC.

We welcome Joe because he is the 1st ILLEGAL ALIEN in history to have never commited any other crimes or violations other than crossing the border illegally.

We welcome him AFTER he goes back to his country of origin and applys the legal way.

Welcome JOE!

No, we do not welcome him. We bar him from reentry for ten years. He can have this bar waived if his wife can prove that this bar poses an extreme and unusual hardship to her. If he is applying from Mexico, chances are good (currently around 90%) that this waiver will be granted. If he has the misfortune to apply through Manila, chances are close to 0.

Current law by no means welcomes Joe. Interestingly, it is not the illegal entry here that gets him the bar (there is no bar imposed for EWI), but the illegal presence. Furthermore, working without authorization is considered a small enough violation of employment law that it is forgiven when you marry a US citizen.

The point being that it is fine and well to insist that people do things the "legal" way, but we also have a responsibility to make sure this legal route reflects the values we as a country hold. I would hope that family unity would be one of them.

Yes, that's quite funny.

However, as you know, that isn't what I am advocating. I am not saying that it's ok to just turn around and put flowers in our hair and skip about singing jolly songs. What I am saying is that these 'quick fix' solutions are expensive and are no more than a band aid.

The government is not stupid, they know that these measures satisfy a primal desire in some people to protect their 'territory' with a big stick and stop them from getting too worked up. However, they are also perfectly aware that these actions are at best temporary and at worst illusory. Still, if it gets you to vote for them, what do they care?

The only reason why most of you are interseted in this topic at all, is because you are sitting waiting in line and somehow think that if the illegals were to 'vanish in a puff of smoke' you would get pushed to the top of the queue, and another equally vacuous idea, that 'terrorism' would be elliminated from the US radar.

*furrows brow*

But isn't that 'line' going to be a huge problem?

I'm not concerned about somebody pushing me out out of my place in line. There's no first in - first out with USCIS anyway.

I'm VERY concerned about how the immigration system, as it is presently structured, will handle the workload about to be heft upon it by whatever the result of this new law may be. The backbone of system is very near to breaking already with the monumental task of checking the background of every petitioner.

I cannot see in all honesty how ANYBODY will get legal papers once 10 or 20 million new petitions get tossed into the mix. And by ANYBODY I mean legal and illegal immigrants alike.

No, I haven't been listening to the flower. Once someone starts US-bashing, I just tune them out. I'm aware of most of the problems the US has. I understand why most of the world hates us. Do I give a shi+? No. When someone from another country comes here and starts preaching about how we SHOULD be doing things, I walk away.....to avoid punching them in the mouth.

As has already been mentioned, someone from the UK telling us how to handle immigration is fukcing hilarious. Hey, if the flower can lump all Americans together, I can do the same with Brits. (Sorry Sian, baby. lol)
