Should we say wages are changing if married in letter from employer?

Hi!

We are trying to get all the forms, etc prepared for Packet 3 and the interview as much as possible now.

We need help with the letter from my fiance's employer. My fiance's income is hourly, and the total income for the year is just a few thousand above the 125% of the poverty guidelines, although he has significant savings.

Our question: He works at a Christian non-profit organization that partly bases wages on the individual needs of the employee (e.g. wages are increased if you marry, or are buying a home, having a child, etc.).

Soooo... should the letter state his 'new' wages he would receive if he married, as well as his current wages, or would that somehow make it look like he's marrying just for the wage increase, and jeopardize our K-1 visa?

Should it just list the current income only? (which is just a few thousand above the minimum required)

Should it state that the wages are partly determined by need, since it's a rather unusual/unique way of doing business?

Thanks! :)

Welcome to the forum.

Interesting question. Here are the government instructions for Form I-134 related to the letter from the employer:

"B. Statement(s) of your employer on business stationery showing:

1. Date and nature of employment; 2. Salary paid; and 3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent."

I would suggest that you keep it short and concise, providing only the information requested. It says the salary paid, not the salary to be paid, not the salary in the future based upon some condition(s). If the salary is above the poverty guidelines, it is above the poverty guidelines. He can list his savings, but it is not necessary if his salary is above the poverty guidelines. Always tell the truth, but there is no need to provide them with any additional information.

Good luck on your visa journey.
