Today marked the 200th anniversary of the USS Constitution's victory over a British frigate in the War of 1812. The ship earned her nickname in this battle.

I wish I had the time to go and see it in person. Hard to believe that the USS Constitution has only sailed twice on her own power since 1881.

I remember when she sailed back in 1997 after being fitted with new sails etc. I think it would have been neat to see yesterday but I found out a bit too late to take a ride into town.

Same here, I didn't hear a thing about it til yesterday. Pretty poor on their PR dept. not to get the word out better.

1997 was with the tall ships, correct?

I think you're right, the tall ships were here in 1997. I remember back in 97 that there was a lot more publicity about the Constitution sailing again. It had just completed a multi-million dollar restoration. I didn't hear a thing about it this time until it was too late. It would have been nice to see. She is a unique piece of American history and was named by George Washington. And launched in 1797. She doesn't look bad at all for her age.
