US Senate candidate: If a woman gets pregnant from rape, she probably wanted it

Rep. Todd Akin, the newly-christened GOP Senate nominee in Missouri, said this weekend that “legitimate rape” rarely causes pregnancy.

Explaining his no-exceptions policy on abortions, Akin was asked why he opposes abortion even when the pregnancy is the result of rape.

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy from rape) is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in a clip posted to YouTube by the Democratic super PAC American Bridge. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

About par for Missouri. The gene pool tends to be quite shallow in a state dominated by regions where being a virgin means you can run faster than your brothers. I spent some time at Fort Leonard Wood, and the locals were some of the strangest people I ever met.

I am wondering if this can take the place of coitus interruptus. I mean how does the sperm and egg know it was rape? Interesting. I surmise the chances of pregnancy from any given act of sexual intercourse is the same regardless of whether it is rape or desire that triggers the act

Seriously, this is the fallacy of anti-abortion people (they are not "pro-Life" or they would no tbe against things like gay marriage). They really need to keep their own choices to themselves and if they want their daughter or wife to have a child as a result of being raped...fine, good for them. I admire their principals. Leave me out of them.
