We have successfully had the NVC approve our CR1 papers. Now, in another week I will have an interview at the Lagos Ng Consulate. The worry is that we have heard horror stories about people who have a big age differences being rejected at the interview, just because of that fact. We are not trying to scam anyone...we love each other very much! We need would love to hear any success stories and/or tips to help w/ this issue - thanks!

What do you consider a big age difference? Who is older, husband or wife?

Welcome to the forum. Please update your time line, so that members can respond to you better. We will like to learn from you, as much as you would want to learn from us. Goodluck

Define large age difference and what are the ages. I assume the Nigerian male is much younger than the USC female. Yes it will be hard for you through Lagos. That profile is typical of a scammer using a USC to come to the US and YOU have the burden of proving to the officer that it not the case. Hopefully you are well prepared with pictures from several visits and lots of pictures with family and friends during those visits. Be very prepared to confront questions about having children especially if the woman is past 40.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Yes....Nigeria is tough consulate....Get ALL evidence proving a loving and valid relationship that you can.

...and just a little info for you. NVC does not approve any documents. They just make sure your file has all the required documentation for your consulate.

Well everything really is already in their hands and hopefully you have spent a lot of "face time" together. Time in person and also knowing his family and family pictures are really key.

Many who have age difference also had other red flags its never just age. They can't deny just because the one is older than other.

Hopefully you don't have some other red flags.

1. Different religion

2. Different race

3. Divorced

4. Children from other relationships or marriage

5. Married first visit

6. Short visit or not much face time together (under 30 days total)

7. Filed right after married

8. Has not meet friends and family

Just a key few to consider. Just have evidence of visits, pictures is most important and anything that shows a genuine bonfide relationship.

Successful approvals happen everyday there with older/younger but you must be prepared for anything they throw at you.

I love your profile pic. Reading your story it says you were married almost a year ago (Happy Anniversary)! Try not to focus so much on what you've read. Every story is different and some leave out details that cost them and misguide others. You didn't rush back and file (which I see as a plus in your favor). You've been married almost a year (another plus). I hope you have proof of constant communication with in this timeframe, pics of you and your spouse with his family and friends, and anything that you sought to combine as husband and wife.

Have faith and remember that being denied is only a delay. Be sure to discuss everything with your spouse that could present as a problem so they can have a confident answer for it if asked and be able to communicate the decisions you made together very well.

All is well!

Well, with a week to go to interview it is a bit late for suggestions.... how often have you met/ how long has she spent with you? As mentioned above, face time is a major factor in approval of "red flag" cases like yours.

My wife is much older than I am. It isn't a problem for me, but we have heard that is sends up red flags to the CO. Any good suggestions or success stories?

Much older is a bad answer when people are trying to help you. Without specifics you are not going to get much assistance.
