Does anybody know how long its taking to get an interview scheduled for the U.S. Consolate in Hong Kong from NVC? My case complete was 10 Aug 2012...when I called NVC yesterday, they said that they has just finished scheduling all the interviews for Hong Kong for September (Thursday night, 16 Aug), however, my wife was NOT scheduled for September date...and for me to call back the 3rd week in September to see if she gets an October interview date...this is crazy! Can anybody relate???

Welcome to the forum.

We can certainly relate. I wonder if the two principal visa-processing US consulates in China dance to the beat of a different drum, but are on a similar musical score, if you know what I mean?.... After all, there are likely only about 75-80 miles distance between the two consulates. The policies and procedures could be similar....

We did K-1/K-2 visas through the Guangzhou consulate (GUZ). The GUZ opened our electronic SAFEFILE on 20 April 2012. We received our Packet 4 and interview date on 18 May 2012. We had our interviews on 13 June 2012. Here is the link to the Hong Kong consulate. It looks similar to the GUZ process (though GUZ can 1-4 months from receipt of file to interview date [depending on visa type and processing method]. I recall a fellow VJ member who was also K-1 (through GUZ), he was about 2 weeks ahead of us, and got their interview a month before we did. I get the impression that GUZ schedules interviews once a month, and our file likely got there right after they had already set the following month's schedule, so we had to wait for the succeeding month's scheduling. It sounds like HKG may employ a similar method??? It is not necessarily crazy.....It is what it is... Though, I am thankful that GUZ opted to use the electronic SAFEFILE to access our file, the original paper file was finally released from Chinese customs quarantine a couple of weeks after we had our successful interview, otherwise, it would have resulted in even further delay.

Hang in there, the end result will be worth the effort!

YMMV.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Ya, Sorry, Hong Kong Scheduling is 'hit or miss' at times.

although you have a timetick of 'case complete',

there are two others that are important..

--final review complete

--casefile eligible for scheduling

It's only the last timetick that gets yer casefile pitched into the scheduling queue. If you miss out , even by a day, for the 'week of scheduling', you must wait for the next round, next month...

unless...

Hong Kong IV Unit asks for your casefile, directly from NVC.

They would only ask IF you contacted the IV Unit and asked to be scheduled.

OR

You could call NVC, get a Supervisor, and ask about:

1. did the slots for September really fill up, for HKG? and

2. can you possibly slot me for an interview, in the next slot, this week?

Good Luck !

If we haven't received a interview date for next month yet would you say its too late for next month?

Is Hong Kong your interviewing embassy/consulate? If not, you may want to check out the Aus/NZ regional forum. I would suspect that there would be folks there that have gone through the process.

Good luck on your visa journey.
