What process happens in customs?

Is 3 hours enough ground time in NY for customs and plane change?

I have heard about some more forms needs to be filled or what? Please, share.

In customs they will ask what kinds of things you are bringing into the USA with you, what is the value, and they may inspect your luggage to verify.

There is a customs declaration form to be filled out.

i'm also curious about this part of the process. i have heard that it can take several hours in immigration, that the immigration officers might ask some questions pertaining to the visa (beyond the typical customs questions), and that you may have to pay (for what, i don't know). can anyone who has been through it confirm?

i've also heard conflicting information about work permits at POEs. i've read here on VJ that JFK in new york is currently the only POE that gives temporary work permits upon entry, but i've read conflicting information elsewhere. thoughts, anyone??

Hi,

I haven't been through it, but from what I've been reading and from border-crossing experience, I can tell you that if your POE is a Mexico-US bridge you have to pay $6 USD for the processing of the I-94. They charge this fee for everybody that applies for one

I hope somebody else who experienced crossing with a K1 can answer your other questions

Clearing Immigration and Customs can take 15-60+ minutes depending on the amount of traffic and the overall setup at your POE.

JFK is the only airport that regularly stamps the K-1s I-94 with the work authorization.

Well, maybe I did not put question right, - I mean not what happens at customs, but at immigration.

Before visa interview they took fingerprint and said this will be compared when I arrive there in my POE (Point of Entry), to make sure that person who receives visa is same who get in.

Also I wonder if security checks are so strong now, will I get to my next plane.

Also I have heard they don’t put work stamp in passport anymore (so this is this EAD stamp?)

And what “biometrics taken” mean?
