Hello Everybody,

Hello,

First of all, I would like to thank every one of you for all your support, help to each other on this virtual visajourney!!! This site has been very helpful throughout my whole journey. I have found very many answers to my questions during the entire process! So, thank you all very much.

I attended the Oath Ceremony this week. Very rewarding, emotional moments!!! Everything was great!!! I wish you all good luck with your immigration journey! :)

With all that excitement, happiness; I have something sad to share. My spouse has been threatening me with divorce for a while now. Unfortunately, even showed me divorce paperwork (Thank Goodness it is not filed and I hope it stays that way)!

Even though I asked my spouse to assure me that She will never divorce me before I went proceeded N400 (I lost my previous citizenship when I became a US citizen). Reason I am saying this is because I do not want to live alone and I do not have anywhere to go. When we married, I never expected that one day she would ever tell me this. What happened to FOR BETTER FOR WORSE?!?!?! I dont know. Seems like, sometimes we forget what we promised!!! Very sad though. And I am the only working body in our household. She has my insurance, etc... I do not want her make a "short minded" decision, let the frustration handle the situation. At this point, I will do my best and pray that never happens. When I told her, I will never sign a divorce paper. It is against my beleifs, she said "you dont have to". One party is enough to file for a divorce!!!

Question: Is this true that one party can file a divorce and have it finalized?

Another question: How would that all affect with my status here in US?

Again, thank you all and good luck with everything.

Blessings.....

I'm pretty sure that once you're a citizen, you stay one (unless you go someplace else and renounce your US citizenship).

Not sure on the divorce thing - much would depend on what state you're in. I think you might want to speak to an attorney on that one.

Congratulations on your citizenship - I hope you work through your family troubles.

First off, congratulations! Now that you are a US citizen, you donot have to worry about the divorce. It's not going to effect you. Secondly, your wife is right. According to the law of this land, one side is enough to finalize the divorce. She can get it done through the court. Our faith has no meaning here.
