So I took all my documents to the DMV for the 2nd time today to try to get a driving license. The first time I didnt have a social security number and it took me 10 weeks to get a denial letter which arrived today. In that time, my I-94 ran out. On the 6 point ID checklist it just says I need a I797 notice. It doesnt say which one so I took my biometrics letter in. No good. They want my AOS letter. So I took that in and they denied me again saying they need an NOA for an I-90. Thats a green card right? The DMV told me there is nothing they can do for my until I get my green card (which will be in feb) but I should be able to use my EAD next month towards the points system. Im just super confused about the I-90 thing. I have an I-485 notice along with my EAD and AP ones.

Here is the help for the NJ point system. http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/DocumentSelector/index.htm

An I-90 is a form to replace your Greencard. You don't have that, as you have not yet been issued a GC. An I-90 would show that the person is a LPR (because it's a mere renewal) but you are not yet a LPR.

I'd do the online verification and see if you can get the points you need.

Edit: I just tried, and you won't be able to provide a primary ID until you get the EAD, so you won't one able to get one until then. Sorry. There is no other category you currently fit into for a primary ID, which is a required category.

The state of Georgia just changed laws and made it more difficult than in the past. My wife had to have her EAD and her unexpired Brazilian passport. There was no way around this for us. It was challenging to say the least (mostly from my wifeheadbonk.gif)

I did the same as Harpa. Here http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/DocumentSelector/index.htm

The first page says you need a Social Security number, so you can stop right there til you get it.

So pretending you had a SSN--

Pick not USC and Next

Primary IDs are worth various points. You have none in the 4 pt category. (a greencard is the third one down.) Your I-94 is expired so invalid.

3 pt category is the EAD card (tick that to see what-if for when you get EAD.)

2 pt documents are ancient greencards from decades ago which some still carry. N/A to you

Click next with your what-if EAD ticked

Secondary ID--

Looks like a certified copy of your marriage license will get you 3 pts.

You'll probably have some of the 1 pt ones too.

Pick what you have, then Next

You'll find the other minor things you'll need once you get the big ones: SSN and EAD. Or SSN and greencard.

ya, SSN and EAD, best combo for now . what's up with the EAD application/biometrics/issuance ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks for the helpful information.

I have a question for the primary ID. I do have my green card but on NJ website it says Current alien registration card (new Form I-551) with expiration date and verification from INS or USCIS

What is the verification part? Is it a separate letter or just something already on the card?

5/5/2012: I130,485,131,765 arrived in Chicago

5/9/2012: email notification of application acceptance

late May: early biometric

6/6/2012: email notification of interview

7/18/2012: Interview, approved
