Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad

Hi! I've been trying to find posts about this issue here on VJ but couldn't find a definite answer.

My husband and I submitted our Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad to the Philippine Consulate that has jurisdiction over the state where we got married back in 2010 and they mailed it back to us with the Philippine seal and stamped with the date and record #.

I assume this means that they have registered our marriage to the NSO. Does this mean that we can request a Certificate for Marriage (CEMAR) from the NSO? Or is the Report of Marriage the equivalent of the CEMAR for marriages outside the Philippines?

Yes, you are correct. good.gifThe Philippine Consulate will forward that to NSO Philippines. You'll have to wait for a couple of months or so for it to get there & be processed/registered in NSO. You can then request for your NSO Marriage Certificate online or in person. Which ever is convenient for you.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPLYING!!! We've been wondering about this for 2 years!!! LOL. Do you think it would be okay to ask my mom (in the Philippines) to request the CEMAR for us? Or does it have to be me or my husband?

I'm sorry I had to edit my above post .... I researched for CEMAR in NSO site & couldn't find it.. You can however, request for your Marriage Certificate in NSO. You can order it online. Here is the link: http://nso.citizenservices.com.ph/

Yes ^__^;; we just didn't know if we could actually request a Marriage Certificate from the NSO because we got married in the U.S. instead of in the Philippines. We thought the NSO Marriage Certificate was only for marriages solemnized in the Philippines.

Once you've filed for Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad & NSO has received your documents from the Phil.Consulate. Your marriage will be registered in their system.

It is actually called NSO Marriage Contract. ..I'm sorry I kept mentioning certificate.headbonk.gif

Haha! No problem - I know what you meant :D

I will definitely look into ordering it then :D After 2 years, it's probably safe to assume NSO has already registered it in their books, right ;)

Because you did not get married in the Philippines, you won't be able to get a Certificate of Marriage from the NSO.

However, if you apply for a CENOMAR from the NSO, the NSO will issue you a CRS Form No. 5 - Advisory on Marriages. This document is known as a CEMAR. It should show your marriage because you reported your marriage abroad already.

OH!!! Thank you very much!!! So just to make sure, we should request a CENOMAR instead of a Certificate of Marriage? :) We just want to make sure that our marriage was properly registered to NSO so any type of record showing that it was registered (aside from the Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad) would be perfect :)
