My mistake. That was end of 2009. If we went by end of 2008, the numbers would be worse.

Total employed population 2008 145,362,000

Total employed population 2011 139,869,000

Subtract the 1,251K for the period you were talking about:

Jobs lost by Obama---------------4,242,000

Actually, in Feb 2009 - the first month Obama was in office - 141,660,000 employed. As of July 2012, there are 142,220,000 employed. That's 560,000 net jobs gained during the fist term. At least keep the numbers straight.

So, I guess he has a little catching up to do with Bush, who gaining 4.7 million jobs in his tenure, using your Feb 2009 number as an ending point.
