Sorry, it was late and I was typing while falling asleep. Of course you have to have MET to be eligible. I SHOULD have said that you don't have to travel to the PI necessarily. For example, if you met while on vacation in Japan, and one returned to the PI, the other to the US... no need for him to travel to the PI. He already visited her once, so they met that criteria. Sorry for putting out bad info!

Having said that... how hard is it to fake ever having met? A couple could meet online, never in person, but could CLAIM to have met. Not that I condone falsifying info, but I am sure it has been done before.

The thing with the I-129F / K-1 visa is that you need to provide EVIDENCE of having met personally. The USCIS or Embassy won't accept it just because you CLAIM to have met.

It is necessary to provide time sensitive documents and pictures showing a personal meeting....I am sure with today's technology someone can attempt to create false documents and pictures....but good luck with that if you get caught. It is a felony to knowingly provide the government with falsified documents.

Meeting in person can be waived under two exceptions:

1. If the requirement to meet would violate strict and long-established customs of your or your fiancé(e)'s foreign culture or social practice.

2. If you prove that the requirement to meet would result in extreme hardship to you.

Although, it is a rare case. I heard of someone in another forum that was able to overcome the meeting in person requirement.

I will post the link later once I find it. whistling.gif
