Hello everyone, I'm Alessandro a U.S. born with both American and Italian Passports. I met the most beautiful woman last year from Italy she was her on a special visa tutoring for a school. She has her masters in Biology from Italy and we became really close and I feel in love with her but she still had a connection with her boyfriend from Italy. Now recently in the past month we started talking again I guess their relationship had been very shaky and now they are over. I would do anything to be with her, the easiest way would be for me to move to Italy since I am a citizen, but she completely loves in here in the Los Angeles area. So I am here for info on the K1 just in case we ever further out relationship. Anyways Love the site so far there is so much great info happy to be here!

I would consider the CR1 if indeed you guys are planning to get married.

The reason I say that is that it is inherently cheaper and once the CR1 is approved, when she gets here, she will get her conditional green card and can work, leave the country and re-enter without AP etc......

If you choose CR1, you guys get married there or here (if she has a visa) and then she goes back and waits for the CR1 to be approved

Unfortunately, you have to be apart whilst married, but you have to be apart as fiance also.

The time frames are very close to one another. There is no clear choice as to which is faster, but in my opinion, there is less hassle with the CR1. (I say that as we did K1)headbonk.gif

The K1, should you go that route, once she enters on K1, you guys have to get married within 90 days (wedding planning is tough) then once married, you have to file for adjustment of status to get green card. Adjustment of status for K1 is taking a long time right now. (8-9months)

But, when you file for AOS, you can additionally file for employment authorization and advanced parole (EAD & AP) and that usually is approved within 90 days of filing for AOS. So, at least she can work once her EAD is approved while waiting for the adjudication of AOS. PLUS, the cost of AOS for K1 is $1070.

Just keep doing your research, read through some of the threads, and talk out all of your options with your Italian sweetheart while your relationship is advancing. Keep all records of your trips to Italy (if you choose K1 you will have to prove you have been face to face within last 2 years of filing petition). Take wonderful photos together, keep all receipts of hotels etc.... That way, if the relationship does progress, you won't be scrambling to get all the evidence needed.

Best of luck to you!

P.S. this is just a brief synopsis as I assume you will read all of the guides and compare the 2 to get a better understanding

Thank you so much for your input, it seems to me the CR1 is the better route, I just need to remember to keep all information tickets, pictures, and receipts. I hope this works out and should be emotionally ready to leave Italy.
