I received an email today from the NVC reference the IV invoice. I went to the appropriate website and paid the fee and then came on here to VJ to update my timeline. I noticed there is a section for "Receive I-864 Package" and then "Return Completed I-864." My confusion is I haven't done either of those two things. I've signed the I-864, but it is taking some time to get it from Afghanistan to Thailand so it can be put with the rest of the paperwork and all mailed together. Yet, underneath those two items on the timeline I've completed the sections titled "Return Completed DS-3032,"Receive IV Bill," and "Pay IV Bill." Therefore, I'm a little confused and am wondering if I've done things out of order. Is that the case? Should I be going about this process differently?

As far as I can guess, once the IV payment is processed, I will receive the instruction package and then my wife will mail all the paperwork to the NVC. That about right?

You do not have to complete the items in order. However, it's really silly to send the I-864 to Afghanistan and then ship it all back to New Hampshire. Nothing in that package needs to be in the hands of the beneficiary. It goes to NVC. Nobody is going to send you an I-864 package. You simply download the I-864 or I-864EZ, complete and sign it and add the supporting documents. Then YOU send the package to NVC.

I am in Afghanistan and the I-864 has to have my signature on it. The rest of the documents needing to be mailed to the NVC are in Thailand, which is why I mailed the signed I-864 there so everything can be mailed to the NVC at the same time. From what you wrote, I guess everything doesn't need to be mailed together and I could have mailed the I-864 separately. Oh well.

Thanks for your help.

The I-864 should go in along with the tax return(s) and current income documentation but they CAN be sent separately.
