Ryan, Romney talk chainsaws, shopping, in People

(CBS News) In an interview with People Magazine out this Friday, Mitt Romney and his newly-minted running mate Paul Ryan shared some details about their personal lives - from their favorite hobbies and movies to Ryan's most recent spending splurge. (Hint: It's a chainsaw.)

"I got a new bow last year," Ryan said, when asked about his "last splurge." "Oh, I got a new chainsaw. It was nice. It's a Stihl."

"You got a Stihl chainsaw?" Romney asked Ryan, with, as People reported, "boyish envy."

The magazine pointed out that Ryan, an avid hunter, also likes to "noodle," a sport in which one wrestles catfish bare-handed. Romney, however, says he has no plans to join the congressman in the activity any time soon.

"Uh, I'm not going to be doing a lot of noodling. I enjoy fly-fishing, but noodling, I'm afraid, I'll leave to Paul," Romney said.

Romney, meanwhile, rehashed his love for the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" by the Coen brothers, and expressed awe that Ryan could recite lines from it having probably "only seen it once."

"I've seen it multiple times, and it's taken me a long time to get the quotes," Romney said.

Asked if he has any guilty pleasures, Ryan expressed no interest in the show "Desperate Housewives," but said he likes movies and reads biographies for fun.

"I read policy. Fun? Fun is biographies. And I listen to lectures from the Great Courses in the car wherever I go," he told the magazine. "I'm listening to a great one on Voltaire right now. I enjoy studying the Enlightenment, which is 18th century debate."

Ryan bought a Stihl? Why does he not buy American products? Man, that's some ticket. Top of the ticket parks his money outside the country and the no. 2 prefers German over American merchandise. They both hate America.

Stihl IncorporatedStihl Incorporated is the American branch of Stihl Group based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 1974, with 50 employees, the company began production in a leased 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) warehouse at the western edge of the city. In 1975 the company purchased 90 acres (0.36 km2) of land in the Lynnhaven Parkway area of the city and since then has gradually developed and expanded a complex of manufacturing, warehouse, and administrative buildings with over 1,000,000 square feet (93,000 m2) of space. Its most recent expansion, expected to be completed in 2012, is a 53,000 square feet (4,900 m2) accessories manufacturing line that will add a further 52 positions to the over 1,900 people currently employed there (2,100 across the United States).[2] Following construction of this expansion, the company stated that it would have no further room to grow at the site and announced that it had purchased the former Lillian Vernon headquarters near the complex,[3] providing an additional 62 acres (0.25 km2) for future expansions.[4]

These expansions are required, because with the exception of 2009, the company has stated that it has recorded 15 consecutive years of record sales.[5]

Why you should always question what appears on Wikipedia:

STIHL is the only gasoline-powered chain saw manufacturer in the world that designs and manufactures its own saw chain (in Switzerland) and guide bars, with its newest guide bar manufacturing facility in Virginia Beach, Va.

a little documentation to support your post ...

" ... both at the founding company and the STIHL Group's subsidiaries, i.e. a corporate culture. And this is of preeminent importance to us as family-owned group which has the character of a medium-sized company

Since the company was founded in 1926 by Andreas Stihl, the "father of the chainsaw", STIHL has grown into an international manufacturer of chainsaws and power tools. Today, STIHL has

production plants at seven locations in Germany and also in the United States, Brazil, Switzerland, Austria and China. The „executive, advisory and supervisory boards and the engineering

center are based at the German founding company, ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co.KG, in Waiblingen near Stuttgart."
