When I celebrated Eids alone, I always made sure that I did a little something to spoil myself. I always decorated with green holiday lights and ate a nice meal. It's not much compared to huge family celebrations, but it's still something. And, for most of us, even when we're with our significant others here in the US, we still don't have that huge family atmosphere that they would expect back home.

I get gifts for my kids and try to make up a little bit for no tree later in the year.... I made a special dinner too... not too fancy coz it's just us three but something I wouldn't normally cook in the middle of the week.

We don't have any muslim friends or family here and no masjid to attend so it's just us. :star:

I did Eid with my kids on Sunday...took them out to eat, bought them a new PS2 game and a couple other toys. Yesterday they went to the masgid with their father and went visiting friends. I didn't want to take yesterday off work because my oldest son will have a tonsillectomy next month and I'll have to take a few days off then.

You know, I could very easily start whining again... but I won't.

What is even more pathetic is when your darling calls and asks "how's the bunny?" (Instead of the cat, I have a miniature bunny.) Neither of us have much of a life right now... the waiting game has gone beyond tedious to the point where we are getting snippy with each other. Not so much because we are annoyed with each other, but because we're both just miserable. Oops... I guess that danced dangerously close to the edge of whining.

Anyway, Eid Mubarak to everyone whichever day you celebrated.

Oh yes..I know all about snippy, snide, rude, etc. I don't know if it was because of Ramadan and fasting that I was in a rotten mood pretty much all the time. It seems like we argued and snipped at each other daily for the past month. It's this friggin waiting and uncertainty that drives one to this kinda behavior.

Don't feel stupid, Salwa. There was nothing wrong with your post. Many immigrants go through this and it is always helpful to read about others in the same boat and how they are dealing with it.

So happy to hear that you are feeling better! (F)
