Hi. My wife got her green card (Permanent Resident card...good for 2 years initially) Dec. 2011 after a successful INS interview. Now her EAD employment authorization card is set to expire in 2 months. Does she have to renew it? The instructions imply that you don't renew it if your application for Permanent Resident was approved. We're just not sure.

Thanks!

Nope, the greencard allows you to work so she's all set!

Yep, greencard is all that's needed. EAD is invalid now. It is possible to go getcha the unrestricted social security card, too.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

The EAD was no longer valid when she received her green card. Her permanent resident status allows her to work. The green card is all that is needed. As moomin mentioned, she can take her green card to the SSA and change her status in the system there too. She will get a new SS card without the stipulation printed on it stating the need for DHS authorization to work.

All you need to worry about 'renewing' will be the 2 year conditional green card she received. You need to apply to remove condition within the 90 days before it expires: http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide
