How to apply for SSN using working permit???

Just received text/email today for my EAD card production..

My question is:

1. what are the procedure/requirement to apply for SSN?

2.How long to received the card in the mail?

June 15-NOA1
June 26-Notice for Biometric
June 29-RFE notice(2011 tax)
July 09-Biometric 1:00 pm at Buena Park,CA
July 11-RFE sent
July 12-Notice I-30 transferred from CSC to NBC
July 16-Response Review
July 20-email saying I-30 transferred to USCIS office
Aug 07-recieved email for interview (Sept 10,2012)
Au9 09-interview letter in the mail at Santa Ana@10:30am
Aug 15-EAD card production
Aug 23-EAD card in hand
Sept 10-Interview Day-APPROVED ON THE SPOT..thank You God:-)
Nov 6-After info pass and Service request finally it updated to DECISION.....
Nov 9-Card Production
Nov 15-Green card in hand:-)

bring the EAD, your passport, SSN application and birth certificate if you have.

mine took 2 weeks to be approved.

Day0 -- 2012.05.08 Sent packet through USPS
Day1 -- 2012.05.09 Packet delivered at 1:29pm
Day7 -- 2012.05.15 Emails/texts acceptance confirmation at 5:16pm
Day8 -- 2012.05.16 Checks been cashed in the morning
Day11--2012.05.19 I-797C 4 hard copies received.
Day14--2012.05.22 Biometrics Appointment received. Scheduled for June 5th.
Day15--2012.05.23 Biometrics Completed at 1:30pm (2 weeks earlier than the scheduled date)
Day27--2012.06.04 Card production ordered for EAD&AP
Day28--2012.06.05 Second card production ordered email received for EAD.(why?)
Day30--2012.06.07 EAD&AP Combo Card mailed

Download the SS-5 application form: http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf

Complete it and take it, your EAD and your birth certificate to your nearest SSA office. You must appear in person and cannot apply through the mail.

It can take 4-6 weeks to receive your first card I believe, although most people get it quicker than that.

I don't know if this is altogether true, but I've read on some other forums that you may be able to receive your SSN on paper (signed and stamped) before the actual card comes, about 1-2 days after going in person to the SSN office.

This might warrant investigation if you have a pending job offer, or another reason it would benefit you to use the SSN before having the official card.

I don't know if this is altogether true, but I've read on some other forums that you may be able to receive your SSN on paper (signed and stamped) before the actual card comes, about 1-2 days after going in person to the SSN office.

My husband applied for his the other day. They told him he would get the card in 2 weeks, but he could come back the next day and they would give him a printout with the number on it. We haven't tried it yet though.

You don't HAVE to give anyone a copy of your social security card for work, if you don't want to. But you do have to provide the number. A lot of employers ask for a copy of the card, but they are incorrect for asking.

8/02/2012 - Email notification of GC production at 5:30pm

8/07/2012 - Second GC production email

8/07/2012 - EAD received.

8/08/2012 - GC mailed.

8/09/2012 - Welcome letter and I-130 approval letter received.

8/10/2012 - Green card received. :)
