we submited the ds 230 and i 864 with all documents asked some weeks ago. NVC officer told me it would take 2 to 4 weeks for them to review them before they could send them to the embassy where i will be interviewed.

well it has been over 4 weeks and i called them last week. the officer told me there were some missing documents. they wanted the originals of the marriage and birth certificvates. My wife mailed them the next day. and now it has been a week i called them last friday the officer told me they still did not get them but i am sure they do have it . i called the post office and they said it was delivered the next day 9 am in the morning.

anyway this isnt whats bothering me. the problem is the officer said i should allow them 6 to 8 weeks to complete the case after they recieved the missing documents.

why is it 6 to 8 weeks now? they said 2 to 4 weeks when they had none of the ds 230 and i 864 and now after 1 month of review there are 2 documents misiing and they need 2 months to complete the case.

it doesnt make sense at all.

is there anybody with such experience and how long did you really have to wait?

thnx

You should be fine relax. I had the same thing happen in our case they said it was incomplete. I was in a panic and called and talked to a live person. She LOL and said you are fine the DS230 goes to another department. They say to allow up to 6 weeks for the financial to be reviewed and sometimes it is only a few weeks or can be longer if they are backlogged. Call them if you are still concerned but you should be fine.

Mary

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

Yes, it won't take 6-8 weeks for them to review these. In reality, it takes about 2-4 weeks. You will be fine.

the originals of the marriage and birth certificates were missing. we gave them certified copies. it has been 2 weeks now and i called the nvc today they still dont have them yet. The post office is sure that they delivered it the next day(about 2 weeks ago) . what kind of mail pick up service does nvc have? this is not the first time it takes weeks for them pick up the mails from their mail box, or its sitting on somebodies desk , waiting to be put in the system.

what kind of work could they be doing on the marriage and birth certificate. they had the certified copies they could work on them and when they got the originals , put them in the case folder and complete it. they are just making things more complicated.

the whole packages were supposed to take 2 to 4 weeks(864 and 230) . missing a few papers shouldnt be more than a few days. this sounds like kinda a punishment for those who sends incomplete packages. 1 month more waiting for each missing document.

nvc was kinda fast in september now it slowed down to halt again.

i think your best course is to plan on 6-8 weeks and hope for less. each individual case is different. we can all give our experiences here, but our experiences don't necessarily apply to your particular case. however, if you feel they lost your papers that is an entirely different situation. did you use usps express? if so, they should have the name of the person that signed for your envelope. u might want to pursue it from that angle. i hope u will have a very speedy review and visa journey! Good Luck!

If you have the proof that NVC did receive your mail, you should email that proof to NVC. It is unusual for them to ask for originals. Usually, the Embassy takes a look at the originals during the interview.

I also didn't submit any originals and was never required to. I find this very strange!

They say 6-8 weeks but it didn't take that long with me. They probably received your package a couple of days ago, but they take a few days to open it and check the documents. You are being naive to think that as soon as they get every mail they would open it and have it registered on the same day. Give them a week and then call again. You'll probably get some good news by then!

alix, you probably didnt read it well. it has been already 2 weeks since i sent them. My wife lives in Massachusetts and NVC in NH, its only 1 hour away. The regular mails reach to NH on the same day or the next morning due to the short distance.

THe originals of the marriage and birth certificate is something for the embassy in ankara/turkey and some 8 others countries (also the ones in africa) NVC sets the interview dates and sends all the documents needed at the interview to the embassy directly. The officer told me there is nothing to review on them but they need the original documents to send to the embassy along with the package.

well for the how long part. the automated system says 6to8 weeks but i talked to the officer she said no its 2 to 4 weeks not 6 to 8. I called the nvc today again, they said they dont have it in the system.

maybe they do have it but sitting on the desk waiting to be reviewed and put in the system.

well for why we didnt not provide them the originals at first place. Because they did not ask us to. the list was clear and we provided everything they asked. my wife went to the town hall and asked the person there who helps with the immigration issues. and they said we have everything they need and everything is done correctly. we also called nvc and double checked all the items . but after 1 month of waiting they asked for the originals.

well above explanation was what they told me , for those 8 countries nvc sets the interview dates and they need the originals to send to the embassies.

OK i called NVC a few seconds ago , Just to get some detailed info about the process. here is how the officer explained.

Due to high volume of mails they recieve, i should allow 2 to 4 weeks for them to recieve the mail. (so the mail is not lost, its sitting there somewhere, waiting for its turn to be processed) once they recieve the mail , i should allow 2 to 4 weeks for them to process the documents.

so the total process should take 6 to 8 weeks.

here is my advice. make sure you send all the necessary papers along with your ds 230 and i 864 packages. you dont really want to get a missing documents list. it delays everything upto 2 months and mostlikely not less than 1 month. i know this is crazy but because of nvc 's mistake i will wait 2 months for these missing documents.

good luck to everyone

Substance,

When you say you submitted certified copies and the NVC sent a request for the originals, what were the certified copies that you submitted. Were they copies you had notorized perhaps? Or perhaps not a full BC that contains all the required information? On the other hand, it is not the first time that documents submitted have gone missing and a request for the documents sent to the agent.

Keep on them until you get confirmation they have been received.

The only thing I submitted with my DS-230 was a photocopy of my wife's passport. Nothing else. These were the only things on my checklist. It must be different per country...

OK, I see what the problem is. NVC document requirements are different for Canada, Albania, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Africa. For everywhere else, those documents are presented at time of the visa interview.

Are you certain that is what was requested as the package on the DOS website pertaining to Turkey says....

Documents You Need to Obtain and Submit

Birth Certificates

Submit the original, or certified copy, of the birth record of each family

member (yourself, your spouse, and all unmarried children under the age of

21).

A certified copy is not a notarized copy. This is why they requested the original/certified copy. Just to note, originals are kept with the originating department as there can be only one original. Copies received when requested are certified copies. Originals are not parted with from the governing party.

You shouldn't have to wait too much longer if all they were waiting on is the missing documents. As has been said it can take a little while for them to be in the system.
