I was in Immigration in Newark for about 5 minutes - I spent like 20-30 minutes waiting in line before that though :) But it wasn't a busy day I could tell, it was October 3rd this year, a Tuesday and about 12 noon NY time :)

When I got stopped in Chicago the last time I went to the US (I'm in Brazil now waiting for my CR1), my husband and I missed our connection to Phoenix and had no problem to get on the next flight. We didn't have to pay any fine or anything. The airline person came into the immigration waiting area and rescheduled us.

Ohhh...and we were there for 2 1/2 hours...but it was because the immigration officer didn't know what she was doing. I can't tell how long it will take when it comes to processing a new immigrant, but I'd assume it's about the same time. They waited until everyone on the flights had passed thru to talk to us.
