Hellooo,

Just trying to get an idea of how long it took you all to get through immigration (specifically at JFK). My connecting flight to LAX is 3hr20mins after I'm due to land, and I reckon I'm either gonna be struggling for time or wishing I'd chosen the other flight that goes 2hrs after!

Anyway, hope all of you are well, I may be spending more time in this forum from thursday..

Really a hard question to answer because it depends on the time of day and how many other flights are concurrently landing with you. In other words, how long is the que? I would think 3+ hrs would be more than enough.....

YMMV

It's probably true that you will be at the gate wishing you had booked the earlier flight, but it is smarter not to risk it. I imagine time will move very slowly sitting at that gate for the last leg of the trip to LAX. (F) Hope you have an easy and safe journey to your new home.

3+ hrs should be enough. It's better to end up having to wait for the connecting flight than cursing yourself for taking the earliest one possible and missing it. Maybe you can find things to do at JFK while waiting for your next flight. Have a safe trip !

I had a four hour connection at Chicago, but didn't make it. Not so much immigration (that was quickest of all) but the two hour delay on the runway prior to my initial flight taking off as they hadn't completed the security name check, plus 45 minutes circling O'Hare due to congestion. I always allow what I 'think' to be enough time, most of the time it is, some times however it's just not going to happen.

Hubster was in immigration close to 3 hours in Chicago.

Provided our interview (Nov. 1st) goes well and my husband has his visa in hand by the 10th. Chicago is our POE. My daughters will be picking us up from Milwaukee which about 2 hours away and I have told them to leave about the same time our plane arrives so hopefully if there is waiting to be done at the airport it will be us and not them.

Do you know if this is the standard amount of time to get thru Chicago???

Thanks,

Michele and Omer

OUR K-3 INTERVIEW WAS ON NOV. 1ST @ 10:00!!!

VISA APPROVED!!!

WE ARRIVE IN THE USA ON NOV. 10TH!!!

Stupid question, I know, but since its never happened to me before, I was wondering, what happens to people who miss their connecting flights? Are you adjusted on another flight real quick?

I have no idea!! I've watched airline programmes on tv and a lot of the time if it's different airlines you're connecting to, they just say 'bad luck' and you have to buy a new ticket! But I'm sure that doesn't reallly happen...

Depends on many factors like why did you miss the flight, the class of your ticket, etc... If it is the airlines fault then you are placed on the next flight that has an available seat or they may choose to put you on a flight from a different carrier.

If it is not the airlines fault then most likely you will have to pay a fee of some sort and you will be put on the next available flight that has a seat (it could be today, tomorrow, next week).

Just and FYI, missing your connection by being late through customs and immigration is not the airlines fault.

YMMV

With my late running flight from the UK to Chicago (mentioned above) there was no hope of making my connection nor for the majority of people on my plane, most of whom were chirpy Northerners heading to Las Vegas (as chirpy Northerners often seem to do). Nor were several other plane loads of people able to make their connections. The result being - a huge line stretching from the re-booking desk, zig-zaging back to a corridor then all the way back to the customs desk and beyond to the baggage carousel and almost to the immigration desks. It also hardly moved so after an hour I upped sticks and carried my suitcases and made my own way from T5 to T3. I eventually rebooked on a flight four hours later than my original departure and wasn't charged any extra to do so.

Maria, did you book JFK because you specifically wanted to get the 90-day EAD?

As there are straight-in flights to LAX from Heathrow.
