Thinking ahead: Authentic copy of birth certificate for Adjustment of Status.

Hi all,

I am the beneficiary from Taiwan. I was granted the K1 visa couple of days ago and I will be soon flying to my fiance. Now I am trying my best to have everything lined up before my departure. I would like to know whether I need to give away any more authentic copies (though I read the photocopies will do) of birth certificate for the applications (Adjustment of Status, Employment Authorization Document, even Remoing Condition) to come?

Also, do I need a long form (showing parents names, and dates of birth..etc) of my birth certificate for the AOS interview?

Oh, as I read someone has secured the police certificates (from both sides) for AOS interview, I was wondering if mine has lying peacefully in that mysterious brown envelope, or should I request an additional one to the local police office?

Any input is highly appreciated.

Good luck to everybody who is wrestling with any given status of petition. :star:

Best wishes,

Hui-Yu

You will need to send copies of the long form birth certificate with your AOS forms.... the original you take to the AOS interview.... you do not need police certificates for AOS...

Good Luck

Kezzie

From my own personal experience.. I’ve been requested via mail to present valid Police Clearance/Report from back home and for all addresses I’ve lived at here in the US since I arrived at our AOS interview. Which is weird and not something I expected.

We sent in photo copies of all documents with our AOS & EAD packet. I believe a long form birth certificate is required, if I remember correctly. My advice is.. send in copies or certified copies if that makes you feel better and hang on the originals for the interview, if they are requested show them.

I was asked via mail for my Police Report from back home in addition to Police Clearance for all addresses I’ve lived at here in the US, my advise is.. better safe than sorry. I’d bring an extra Police Report if it’s at all possible. Probably never need it, but if they ask for it best to have it on hand and ready. I’m glad I brought mine from home, never thought I’d be asked for it here. I would never have gotten another from back home in time for my AOS!

Good Luck!

Thank you so much for your info Adian. ;)

A thread posted here the other day weighed on my mind. As I applied one police certificate and presented it along with the K1 interview, I was surprised that they didn't return the police certificate back to me after the interview, nor simply, asked if I had a photocopy of it. So naturally my guess went to the conclusion that it was included in that engimatic brown envelope. However, since it will be on a different occasion (AOS interview) where I will be asked for the police certificate, I might as well secure it while I am still here. :D

Thank you all, I wish you all the best.
