Our Post Office is a nightmare for passports...you have to ring for an appointment...they never answer.

Even with an appointment there's always a long line.....

The clerk is always grumpy and never smiles....

We had to go to the courthouse this week to the tag office.....

I took my shiny new naturalization certificate and filled-in passport application just in case......

We trotted downstairs to the clerk of the court...

The clerk dealt with it in less than 5 minutes, even said "Congratulations on becoming a citizen...and the processing fee was $25.:thumbs:

If you haven't been to the post office yet, it's well worth trying the courthouse!!

Old and Grumpy....But an American Citizen!!!

On this, my 10-year anniversary on VJ, I report that Mrs. T-B. just returned from a trip and said "Ecuador is no longer for me."  Seems like the naturalization has stuck, si man.

I checked them first, but the processing-fee was outrageous (ootrageous, if in Canada), and I know from a recent [censored] jury summons that everyone has to go through airport-like metal detectors first, si man. Was not going to subject Mrs. T-B. and especially little Mini-Bone to that, no man. We made a little road-trip out of it (oot of it, if in Canada), and all's well that ended well except that we're awaiting the passports, si and sigh, man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

I came home last night again. Looked in the fridge and noticed she had bought my fave Blue Bell ice cream and some other faves food and drinks and even bread. Wow. star_smile.gif

Once, I tried the Mexican Praline or whatever it's called. Surprisingly tasty for non-chocolate.

Mrs. T-B. just told me that we actually DO have ice cream (chocolate, albeit just store-brand) in the freezer, hidden for some time behind whatever wives freeze in freezers, brrr man. Brief-yet-intense marital strife resulted, grrr man.

Actually, this stuff was bought & brought by a fellow VJ member/Guayaquil hosee who came to visit. We'd eaten some, and then the carton got buried under all the stuff that wives put in freezers, sigh man.

I tried eating it all up just tonight, si man, because garbage day is tomorrow and I wanted to get rid of the carton, but I didn't quite succeed, no man. Mrs. T-B. is on a diet, so therefore I automatically am, too, sigh man.

Thank God. My wife freezes everything too. I found it best not to ask what some of it is as she may tell me. I was on a diet too but started to cook a lot to get control of what I eat. Vegetables are NOT a main course. mad.gif

Thank God. My wife freezes everything too. I found it best not to ask what some of it is as she may tell me. I was on a diet too but started to cook a lot to get control of what I eat. Vegetables are NOT a main course. mad.gif

You should have fallen for a Filipina. When my wife makes vegetables, half of any vegetable dish is meat, usually pork. Last night she made barbecued pork on the grill. Served with two vegetables, one was raw cucumber sliced and served with vinegar and soy sauce for dipping, the other opo with pork. And of course the ever present white rice. I put on 20 pounds after she got here and she refuses to let me diet to take even a few of them off.
