So my interviews Monday and I decided to get hubby to quiz me, bad idea. Heres the arguement. He says that I'm to answer the questions the way they are stated in the book that they give you, all answers where they do NOT ask you to name one or two.

Example question What is the rule of the law? There are 4 answers hubby says I need to know and answer all four, I say I only need to answer one. Whos right?

Just in case you need more, one of the responses is enough. Good luck on your interview!!!

You are 100 percent correct. My wife just became a US citizen. If the question ask for one answer;that is all you need to know.

Like everybody said, only ONE answer is sufficient. The book merely states the various way a question can be answered. Good luck.

Thats what I tried to tell him but he insists now that even though I only have to give one answer I should know them all. He hasn't even read the damn book all the way through. We got up to question 2 and thats where it stated, then by # 7 he was done and so was I. Sheesh

I think the main purpose of the 100 questions is so potential citizens have a bit of knowledge about the history and government. Yes, you only need one answer, it's good to know the others if there are multiple answers - for knowledge sake, but I'd focus on having an appropriate answer for each of the questions.

There are a handful that I get stuck on - most of them I've known for ages. I have a crazy fear that the ONLY questions I'll be asked are the ones that trip me up! :) I'll be reviewing them extra before my interview (if I ever get my IL!)

you only need to answer one any one,you have to study 100 questions,at the interview you are asked ten questions you only need to get 6 right to pass the test but you don't know which ones they will give you. so study them all,you also have to write a sentence in english, to pass the test. good luck.

so, forget the argument with the 'husband'.

You should focus, instead, on form and format of 'multiple-choice exams'.

Unless instructions say otherwise (this is rare)

there is only ONE correct answer. It's up to you to determine which one is MORE right than the other three.

If someone told me that I had to know all 4 , I'd cry shenanigans and start getting violent.

OTOH, knowing the wrong, bullsh|t answers can be useful, also.

So - how long have you had this husband? can trade him in for one not so bullheaded? or bullstoned?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Those of us posting here (in English) shouldn't have an issue on that part of the test! (Especially another Canadian, eh?)

I went over some of the questions with my American employee... she struggled with some of them. I've read someplace that 1/3 of Americans would fail the test!

I would think they don't set you up to fail. 6 out of a possible 10 isn't too hard. And from all that I've read, they stop when you reach the 6 correct answers so if you get the first 6 correct, you're done.

I attended an information seminar for people considering applying for citizenship and the presenter there told us that the English test is typically the most difficult. I assume he was implying for those who aren't fluent. He also said spelling doesn't count. They are just looking to make sure the candidate has a reasonable comprehension of the language.
