When can we apply for my wife's social security card?

her point of entry was on 7/2/2012 and we just got married on 8/1/2012 (k1 Visa)

I am also waiting on the official marriage certificate to do adjustment of status.

Thank you.

You can go to SS office after you get your marriage certificate (if she wants to change her name). You will also need your I-94. Here are some links

Yes, also, we did not need her SS# for that, just the marriage certificate to show we were married.

Ok, thanks. Is there like a time frame to apply for a SS card your fiance or wife ?

You can apply about 10-14 days after arriving in the US and up to 2 weeks before the I-94 expires. If the I-94 is about to or has expired, then you would need to wait for the EAD or green card to get the SSN.

For someone coming to the US with a CR-1, they can check off on one of the forms, I think the DS-230, to have their SSN mailed to them after they arrive. Sometimes it does not get automatically sent and you still need to go to the SSA and apply for it. Removing conditions on your green card is something entirely different and separate from getting the SSN. You need to remove conditions on the 2 year green card within 90 days before it expires. You can read more about it in the guides here on VJ.

When can we apply for my wife's social security card?

You cannot.

SHE, otoh, can.

study the I-94, there are two dates on it.

she can apply 21 days past issuance, all the way up to 2 weeks prior to expiration.

Is I-94 also needed for CR-1 to remove conditions and apply for SSN?

I-94s are not issued for CR-1 visa holders.

to apply for a SSN, show up at SSA office 21 days past the POE date.

To remove conditions, wait 641 days past green card issuance date, then apply.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Just to add to the "up to 2 weeks before the I-94 expires" statement, we were 3 weeks away from expiring and the SS person gave us a hard time and said he might not be able to do it. But, we were able to obtain it. As Jay-Kay mentioned, if you go beyond this date, you will have to wait.
