I asked two questions, the second being "My husbands passport (Haitian passport) expires in May 2013. Once he receives his GC, will he need to apply for a US Passport? Will his Haitian Passport be invalid? I am not sure how any of that works and would appreciate any advice on what happens for travel documents once GC is received"?

I sincerely did not know ONLY US Citizen can have US Passports and really didn't give that much thought. But two different people (big time know it alls on this site) basically attacked me about claiming my husband as a US Citizen, which I did not do. My post is on the AOS thread, anyone can see what I asked and see that I never claimed him to be a US Citizen, I just simply did not know the process once he gets his green card, does he apply for a US Passport or does he renew his Haitian Passport. They totally went off on me telling me about how it's breaking the law, how it can trigger deportation, etc, etc. But I never, ever claimed him to be a US Citizen, I just asked if he applies for a US Passport. Maybe it was a stupid question, but did it really warrant the personal attack?????

That's how they are on here.....You just have to learn to ignore, Ignore and Ignore.....do not take anything personal... I've learnt that. I asked a question one time for a friend and I was told to stay out of people's business... funny thing is everyone on here is always in someone elses business on VJ. The dude that told me to mind my own business is also in my business because he took time out to read my post.

Again I say Ignore

Yes, I followed some of their responses and it is exactly that. Just plain jealousy and really crappy manners. They think they are entitle to talk like that to anyone. Just ignore them (and pretty much the rest of the forums for that matter)

I'm sorry you had to go through that but take it from who is coming from

Thanks! I agree. I am just gonna stick to our Aug AOS thread. I read questions from other's occasionally but do not offer any help because of the forums gods seem to think no one is better educated than them. I might not know all of the answers when it comes to immigration but I have class, and tact. No education can teach you that!

Will his Haitian Passport be invalid? I am not sure how any of that works and would appreciate any advice on what happens for travel documents once GC is received"?

I just checked the thread with your questions, and yes they were a little hard. but think that many people that ask questions have really no idea, are misinformed, and people answering questions don't know how much you know, so they assume you know nothing!

And I am not saying you are confused between citizen & resident, but many people are!

Like the first girl that answered you and that has posted in our thread several times says: my husband always says I'm american. It's a proof that many people even after doing all this AOS process is still confused. haha!! especially the spouse that didn't help at all in the filing!! like mine!

So, I just take as an advise that aggressive comment. Frankly I would have never thought it was a crime! Now I know that I will always double check if anyone (Bank employee, HR in a job, etc...) fills something on my name, I'll check just to see that they didn't write citizenship: US. It's normal they wouldn't know.

All my friends keep saying: oh! you are american now. Who will you vote for? I keep saying I am not. I could be if I apply 3 years after being married. The following week they already forgot! :(

To answer your passport question. He has to contact haiti consulate (not embassy)

Foreign embassies is where people go apply for a visa to enter that country. i.e. I went to the US embassy to get my student visa before coming.

While Consulates are for nationals in another country. As mexican I went to the mex consulate to Detroit 2 months ago to renew my mexican passport because my visa was stamped there. I think besides a GC, we get a "GC stamp" there too after interview, something that says: CR1 (conditional resident). And two years later a new stamp "PR1" (permanent resident).

One year after the PR, We CAN apply for citizenship. And THEN we could get a american passport. ---> And you can shout to the visajourney j*rks: My husband is an american citizen! lol!

now, many times consulate and embassy are in the same building or office, but that's another thing.

Ugh, I have been reemed a new butt hole today by asking a question. I think my time on this site is done....... I can't handle personal attacks on something I did not say or claim. Anyway, I wish you all much luck on your journey. I think I am going to finish mine off site.

Don't listen to them. They dispense their 'knowledge' with no thought of how to make it sound useful or sympathetic to you. Most are bitter towards 'our way' of obtaining a GC. They believe us to be cheating the system by adjusting in country and they like to take shots, subversively most of the time.

You can block them so that their entries don't appear in any future posts you read or make, so keep on being active when you feel like it :)

His reply easily makes anyone feel offended.

But you are here to learn... AOS is not an easy process. You will learn a lot from good people around here.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Wife's journey.
