Is 4 passport-type photos enough?

I'm the beneficiary, my husband is the petitioner.

We file for I-130, I-765 and I-485.

We are not filing for I-131.

I only have 4 passport-type photos. Do I really need 6 as I've been reading about or could 4 photos of me be enough?

Follow the instructions for each form exactly. I think that adds up to 5 for the non-USC and one for the USC. On the I-130 they only ask for

  • A passport-style color photo of yourself and a passport-style color photo of your husband or wife, taken within30 days of the date of this petition.
  • There are 2 each for the I-485 and I-765

But, when they ask for the photos on the I-130, are they referring to the G-325a form then?

The instructions for the G325a do not ask for a photo.

When we filed I think we ended up using 6-8 for the beneficiary and 3-4 for the petitioner - ie/ Non-USC used 6-8, US used 3-4.

You must follow the instructions exactly, or you will get a RFE. 4 photos is not enough.

It's one for USC and seven for immigrant, subtract two per optional application (I-765 or I-131) omitted.

You need what it says. We accidentally forgot 2 and got an RFE. No point in delaying your case for weeks over something so simple.

OUR TIMELINE

I am the USC, husband is adjusting from B2.

08.06.2010 - Sent off I-485
08.25.2010 - NOA hard copies received (x4), case status available online: 765, 131, 130.
10.15.2010 - RFE received: need 2 additional photos for AP.

I-485/I-130 filed: January 26,2012 (130/485 sent to Chicago lockbox, transferred to MSC, field office Baltimore, MD).

I-130 Approved: June 25, 2012

I-485 RFE issued: June 25, 2012

Contacted offices of Honorable Senator Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski at the end of July.

I-485 DECISION MADE on August 03, 2012 , LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER CONTACTING THE SENATOR'S OFFICE TO INQUIRE ON CASE STATUS!

I-485 WELCOME NOTICE RECEIVED IN MAIL: 08/08/12

Green Card in Mail: 08/11/12

7 for Immigrant and 1 for USC. Its not going to hurt if you send 1-2 more photos

but other way round can :)

in your case you need 5 only for yourself, and 1 only for your husband

7/09/12 NOA email notification

7/14/12 Received hard copy of NOA in the mail

7/16/12 Received biometric appointment letter for 8/01/12

7/23/12 Successful walk in Biometrics

8/15/12 Received email for interview notice

9/10/12 EAD card ordered, (didnt get email or text checked it on USCIS website)

9/18/12 EAD card received in the mail

I agree with previoust posts. For marriage based AOS, it should be 1 photo for the petitioner for the I-130. For the beneficiary 1 photo for the I-130, 2 more for the I-485 (remember to sign these), 2 more if submitting form I-765 (optional), and 2 more if submitting I-131 (optional).

However if you have already sent the forms I wouldn't worry for now. A RFE is not a certainty. I remember a post by JimVaPhuong here that he only sent in 2 photos for the entire AOS package and had an approval without any RFE's.
