Pls help me answer these questions based on your knowledge and experience. :)

1. Is it ok if the USC travel to Manila with just a one-way ticket? Coz we want to fly to the US together if the visa is approved but we don't know exactly when it will be so we can't set a return date yet.

2. Is a USC required to get vaccines before coming to Manila?

Thanks in advance! :)

The Philippines requires you to have a outward ticket to inter the country, I've been there 50 times and customs only checked my ticket a few times. However the airline may will not let you on board in the US, unless you have an onward ticket.

Vaccines are not required, but I always get up to date on Typhoid, Hepatitis A and B.

If your fiance visits his local health dept. and tell them where he is planning to go, they will give him a full recommendation of vaccines for that area. Do it as much in advance as possible because some of the vaccines require a second shot.

It is not "required" to get the vaccines, but is dam highly recommended to do so. It is toooooo easy to get a waterborne illness in the phils.

In my several trips to the phils, customs has only asked to see my return ticket once, but I've always had one. It is a requirement by the phil gov. and as posted above, I think the airlines in the US "enforce" this requirement and might not let him on the plane. Doesn't really matter though because he can get a reasonably priced round trip ticket and change the departure date once you have your visa. When he books his flight, set the return date well past when you estimate you'll actually get the visa, to allow for any visa delays. The last time I had to change my departure date, Delta charged me $125-150USD(don't remember the exact amount) and they gave me credit for that amount toward any future flight. Some airlines used to allow ONE free change, but not sure if that still exists, but mine wound up being free considering the credit given.

In my opinion you would be a fool not to get at least Typhoid, Hep A+B Vaccines, and get a Tetanus booster if needed. The Hep vaccines require three visits with a fourth a year later to be fully effective, so he needs to start them at least a month before going there.

Yes he can go without a return ticket, but it's possible customs will give him a hard time. But if he explains that he will get his return ticket when the visa is there, it probably won't be a problem. He will only get a 21 day visa to enter the Philippines, but this can easily extended by going to Immigration in Intramuros area, and paying a fee to extend your visa.

I have never been asked for a ticket at Philippines immigration, but I have been going in and out for years and often. I have seen one person get asked but he looked questionable and was at the window for 10 minutes... Your problem is, the airline you are leaving on will ask for it most likely. Not always, but usually.. If your flying on a Philippines airline or out of Hong Kong or Bangkok, absolutely 100% you will be asked. SO I guess the best thing you can do, is buy the round trip ticket with return far enough out, or when you think the two of you will be returning, and buy her a one-way ticket.

As for the shots, it's a good idea. I was required for my work to have all necessary shots for all over the world. They won't protect from everything, had a stint of cellulitis on my leg above my ankle that took 6 months to finally go away. You just never know.. My good friend, same shots - same work and he was in the province and him and his son got Denge 3 weeks ago. Knocked him down good while his son recouped quickly. I would add DEET to you list if you're traveling out into the provinces as it is rainy season.. Good luck and no worries, I hear the more Tagay of Emperador that you do, will take care of all ailments...

Actob99, we are just going to Manila. I really hope he doesn't catch anything. He is the USC btw and it will be his first time in Manila. I don't want him to have a memory of Manila as the place that made him sick.

And no, I won't let him near any Emperador. :)

KyleAndrea...The quotes below are all good advice. The vaccines may not be required, but they are a good idea. Years ago I had a bad case of Hep A and it laid me out for about six weeks. I hope you follow through and get the shots.

Anyone who travels to a country where the standards of health care and cleanliness are not the most modern, and does so without updating their immunizations, is traveling with a fool for a partner.

That being said, once a person has the 2-shot series for HAV, or the 3-shot series for Hep A & B, they are considered immune for 20 years. But I know a lot of people who take the first shot and never get the second or third one, and are therefore more at risk for infection.
