We are heading to Montreal on the first of November. Have read many post about it. We wnet throught the NVC, and have no real specifics about that. We gave original docs, Birth, marriage, divorce, taxes(from the irs). We will be satying less than a mile, at the Villa Marie(best western) Airmiles, wish we had that here.

If we want the originals we need to bring copies?

Where is there good to eat close?

Since we were denied at one poe, will we need to return to that poe?

What are some good things to know?

What is up with the $100.00?

Usd or Cad?

Thank you all for your help, :D

I don't have my IR-1 interview until November 22nd, but I've done the K3 thing before so I can answer a few of those...

1) You need a copy of everything, regardless of whether you want the originals back. I thought I had copies of everything for our K3, just incase, and somehow misplaced the copy of the birth certificate. Luckily, the officer was nice and made a copy for us. With the IR-1, they *should* have copies of everything from what the NVC forwarded, but I wouldn't count on that. They might misplace something and expect a copy.

2) Not sure about the food situation. We ate a few times at this little restaurant by the train station. Deli Planet or something... yummy soup and sandwiches, which is really all we could stomach after the interview waiting to go back and get my K3. This was back when they issued them same-day.

3) Shouldn't have to go back to the same POE (don't quote me on that one, but I'm about 95% sure). However, be prepared to explain why you were denied entry... both at the interview and at whichever POE you use.

4) There isn't a whole lot to tell you besides the hints you'll find posted 463463 times throughout the forums about Montreal. Don and I were the first ones there for the K3 (arrived around 7:10am), and they let everyone in early. We were happy to see a photo booth in the basement while we were waiting for the elevator. I forget how much it cost, but if you want to kill some time, it might be worth it to bring some spare change :)

5) The $100 is USD, but it's only for non-immigrant visas. You paid all of the fees you need to pay through the NVC. I'm going to bring some US$ with me just incase... but anything I don't spend will be coming with me back down to Indiana a few days later.

Hope some of that is helpful, and good luck!!

Lots of reasonable food options in the neighbourhood - just walk a block or so in any direction and you should be able to find something that you like:-).

Good luck at the interview.

Did you get any paperwork when you were denied? I brought the form they gave me at the POE (with the reason for denial & my photo) to the K3 interview and the officer thanked me for bringing it. No problem at all.

Not from the POE, but from USCIS. Plan on bringing all our paperwork. SS cards, EOA, just everything we have from USCIS ?

Hello,

we just got back from montreal.

1. good places to eat: not too sure. But do NOT eat a place called VARGAS restaurant (recommended by our hotel concierge). Their food sucked. And the waitress asked us what we wanted for drinks, and I said water. She said "bottled?, and we just let it slide assuming it would be like perrier. Instead, she brought us this 1 litre bottled water for both of us, (that was already partially used), and then charged us $6.00 for the water!!!! Plus the food was not good either.. and they charge a fortune. It's a tourist trap.

2. POE. I dont' think so... but not too sure

3. good things to know:

-leave as much as possible at the hotel that you do not need... given tight security

-leave keys at hotel

-leave automatic car door opener attached to key chain at hotel

-leave purse at hotel if possible, and carry wallet only

-make sure you have $100 USD cash

-if you are missing copies, they do make copies for you .. but you SHOULD make sure you have copies of EVERYTHING

-there is no bank in Toronto Canada that is open on Sundays to exchange Canadian cash into American cash.

-royal bank apparently has some instant teller machines that let you withdraw your canadian cash for USD

-but you can save yourself the pain and hardship ;) by making sure you have 100 USD cash BEFORE the weekend starts

-for the express post envelope, you do not need to fill in the part that says "FROM", as they have a stamp that they use for that portion

-they will give back the originals of some stuff (ie. marriage certificate)...

-walk/drive/taxi to the consulate the night before to get an idea of where it is

Enjoy your trip to Montreal.

Go to La Milsa for the celebration dinner. It's pretty close to the consulate and so worth the money! Bring your appetite!

I just looked at their website! I hope my fiancee has her interview when I visit in December so we can go there. It looks tasty. Do they have a tredmill so you can walk off your "10 types of meat" when you're done?

If you are organized and have a copy (Ibrought 2) of everything...breathe, you will be fine. All u need to do is follow the list (packet 4 for me) and you are ready. It's really not that bad, and the train ride to the city was fun! (First class is totally worth it!- 3 course meal and wine to boot!) Have fun, and enjoy the day!

If you have a little time for dinner, hop the subway up to the Plateau. I stayed there for a week last summer and everywhere I ate was great and not as expensive as downtown-the train ride is less than 10 minutes. Also, FYI, it's really common for people to bring their own wine to restraunts in Montreal and most places don't charge corkage. Complete departure from the norm in Calgary where they charge outragous corkage

Corkage? wow that is something. As far as I know the medical and photo's are all that is left. Medical is tomorrow 11/26/06. Had a medical in the states when we there. Do have those papers, so hopefully no more shots, it was less than 2 years ago.
