Hi Everyone,

My German FI and I sent in our I-129F papers and filed for the K1 visa February 27th and I promise we sent everything AND MORE! Now I know, I made an EXTREMELY rookie mistake and didn't listen to my FI when se said "make 2 copies of everything!" I was going though other problems at that time and my mind was too occupied and I know that is no excuse. I still have all the proof; pictures, plane tickets, engagment ring and wedding band reciept, etc. And I have SOME of the written out papers such as my letter of intent and my G-325A...I guess my question is, if it is not EXACTLY identical to the first set of papers, will they deny us? I know this may just be me over worrying and I keep trying to convince myself that everything will work out because once he goes in for an interview, they will know that we really are in love and really planning on getting married in December.

If anybody can help me with this, that would be great!

-Katie

During your fiance's interview, the consul will review the forms and proofs you submitted in the package. That's why VJ recommends having a copy for the beneficiary. But it is not necessary to be the exact duplicate.

This is not correct. There is no need to have a copy of the 129f or the contents at the interview, they will already have all the copies you sent in with the petition. At the interview you can bring further evidence of an ongoing relationship since the time the 129f was filed.

The copies are just for safety, one for you and one for your fiancé, but there are never necessary in the process. So dont' worry at all! I made two copies, and we never needed or used them, but I still like having them. But you're fine.

So yeah, take a deep breath!!! The copies is only something VJ recommends to be safe, like in case they lost all your paperwork, etc, you'd have a copy to show them, or god-forbid you had to start over or something, you'd have a copy to help.

But you are going to be fine :)

The petition copies are just for situations where something may have gotten lost. (it does happen) USCIS does not maintain "backup" copies. More importantly is for the US citizen to send their part of the requirements for the K1 (I-134 and supporting documents, copy of NOA2 etc..)

EDIT: crossed thread with Mogambi.. sorry for the duplicate

You WON'T have to bring any documents to the interview because now u have to send everything in avdance or else u don't get an interview date. U just bring ur passport to the interview and the invitation letter (pack 4). That's is.

And no, no copy of the I-129F is needed.

Good luck! In our experience, the pictures and stuff they ask you to include when you receive the packet from the embassy were more important than the papers included with the I-129F when my husband went for the interview in Frankfurt.

Total elapsed time between filing I-129F to GC in hand 569 days or 1 Year, 6 months, 22 days.

Totally depends on the Consulate. For example, in Brazil, we send noting via mail and show up for K1 interview with all documents in hand.

EDIT: Just saw you were in Germany...good.gif I will leave my above post so that others will know that it still depends on the consulate.

Photocopies are good. Embassies lose documents. They lost some of our documents. Good thing Chinook had photocopies.

By the way, consular officers can ask for the original of any of your evidence...W-2's, boarding passes, receipts, etc.

The second copy isn't for the consulate. It's for the beneficiary. It's often helpful for the beneficiary to have a complete copy of the petition package so they can study it. The consulate often bases interview questions on the information that was provided in the petition package. Many people have failed the K1 interview because the consular officer knew things about the petitioner that the beneficiary didn't know.

Maybe others are pros at this or something, I don't know how many times they have done this process. (You would think most are doing this for the first and last time.) My original petition gets sent out and I am supposed to send a copy to my Fiance as well and I have one for myself. I don't see how it is not necessary to make copies. It is a high risk to do this process with out a single copy.

Don't worry, it's just a recommendation made by VJ, not a requirement of USCIS. I never made a copy of my package either.
