Hi all

Juliet recieved a call from SLEC and was told to return tuesday..aug 14..this will be the 4th week of her sputum culture test..can this be anything but bad news? Is it possible to have negative result in 4 weeks? If positive is there a type of TB that can be treated in the US or is it the 6 month treatment there? She is very afraid now..it seems this has been one problem after another..trying to be hopeful but this doesn't look good.

thanks for any reply

My wife Chera just got the same news...Come in August 14th for result...Also only 4 weeks...I am hoping for the best but fearing the worst also...But they gave her antibiotics when she was there for the evaluation...I am hoping they just want another Xray...But ?....If the girls are stuck there maybe we can split a place for them....I dont want to think that...But that way they could travel to Lukes together...and the cost would be more affordable for us...

NO, it is not possible to have a negative result in 4 weeks. When SLEC call, usually it is a bad news.

@ Christracy is your fiancee never get any words from the doctor while she was in SLEC after the sputum? They never show to your fiancee the result in her x-ray? Did your fiancee do the evaluation?

that would be bad news :( sorry about that.. been there ,done that.. i was in the same situation too.tell your fiancee to start the medication right away, dont waste time.. btw, if your fiancé lives far from st.luke, there is a ladies dormitory besides robinson its just 2 blocks away from st.luke. most of the tenant there are having medications in st.luke ...some works in hotel and some are students. i rented there for 9 moths.6 months for medications and another 3 months until my interview in embassy done.(im from mindanao) so its hard for me though. good thing my son as k2 was having no problem, but he has to go for X-ray every 3 months. i had to fly back to mindanao and take him to manila and take him back again in mindanao after x-ray. such a big ordeal but we made it , were now in US for 3 months now. dont worry about that, it's not only her,a lot lot of fiances having medications. 1 month would be hard going back and forth everyday just to take medicines not including saturday and sunday.it was crazy BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT. GOOD LUCK and BE PATIENT.

If you get a positive TB test can't you be treated somewhere else? My fiance and her daughter live in Cebu. Couldn't any treatment be given there? It's a large city. Why is SLEC the only place?

Also if it is only at SLEC does it mean you have to live near SLEC for 6 months? Or you only have to go back a few times during that 6 months?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it has to be at SLEC. That's just the way it is. Acrossthemiles has finished the process, so she's the one to listen to.

I don't know whether or not you can be treated anywhere else, but I don't think you can. However, I have read posts here on VJ where TB treatment was started elsewhere and St. Lukes accepted the treatment already completed and then had the person finish their treatment at St. Lukes. St. Lukes required strict documentation from the patient's doctor of the treatment already completed. In those cases, I believe the people started their TB treatment before they ever went to St. Lukes for their medical exam.

St. Lukes wants you to complete the treatment regimen at their facility because that's the way they make sure that you've been treated. You will have to go to St. Lukes every weekday to take the medicine.

Thanks for replies..i have heard that reciently SLEC has let patients do the treatment in the home town of the patient. You have to report to SLEC once a month..i have heard this from a visa agent..guess will know for sure aug 14..will i be notified of the possibility that i may have it too? This has devastated Juliet..we are still holding out hope as the actual time for sputum culture is 3 to 4 weeks..i find it odd that Rich's wife n mine get same call n same report date after 4 weeks

She was given evaluation..after three sputum collected the result was negative. They said because of x-ray that she had to have further testing..I personally know of a person that got called at 6 weeks and was cleared..my wife has never had symtoms of TB. Any possibility of this being treated in the States?

No. She has to pass the medical at St. Lukes in order to get a visa. She won't pass the medical unless she gets treated (assuming she has TB).
