I'm not sure if this is in the right spot, but here goes.

I wanted to file to immigrate to the US with my husband so we could live together, but I'm a little bit stuck in terms of evidence. You see, most of our relationship began and was expressed over an MMO called FFXI-Online, and through MSN chat (when we got there) we only ever called each other by our online pen names. Now I have plenty of evidence dating around 2008 up until now of this, which is quite a bit, but does it qualify? Only a few instances are there references to our real names and although I could provide photographs of us playing those characters and screenshots of even our in-game wedding, would it be an acceptable supplement to the little bit of evidence we have of us together irl in comparison? If so, how would I got about presenting it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi friend. In answer to your question, you basically described how I met my husband, haha. I submitted logs of our MSN time (you can print history of login-logouts). You don't have to send your conversations which made me happy. You must however have met your husband within the last two years in person. They will deny your application without this evidence. Also, photographs (real ones) of you two together should be included to show a bona-fide relationship. I only had about 7 photos of myself and my husband and included boarding passes of the trips he took here to see me and the chatlog (the login/logout from MSN). This sufficed for the requirement. Best of luck!

Oh that's really encouraging, thank-you! I was worried because although we've met each other a total of four times in person, we didn't have much in the way of reciepts using his debit/credit card, or photos. We have some from my sister's wedding, our wedding, and his first visit in 2010.

Can you help me out with where to find the login/logout information for MSN history?

Can you help me out with where to find the login/logout information for MSN history?

I asked my husband and he said he used ours from a program called Trillian (I know, big help huh).

So I did some digging and I hope you have your save history activated. Here's what I found:

If you have 'save history' activated then it will be stored here

C:/my documents and settings /my received files

or it will be saved here

C:/my documents and settings/my chat logs

We threw in about 30+ pages of login/logouts starting with when we met up until we filed. I'm not even sure they cared about it. I mean, anyone could generate such a log if they wanted. I think the photos and stuff carry a lot more weight than a log (personally), but it couldn't hurt...right? They want to make sure you are in a legitimate relationship/marriage and that you aren't just trying to come over here under a visa with fraudulent intent.

I'm going to only assume you will be filing for IR-1/CR-1 since you are married. Check out the Wiki if you haven't already CLICKY CLICK WIKI LINKY ..... or the Guide ANOTHER CLICKY GUIDY LINKY oh and of course that forum CLICKY FORUM LINKY. You might find a lot of advice in there from others who went through the same process as you.

I also think you should include screenies of the in-game wedding. I mean how adorable is that? You can include just a brief description on the page stating what it is and the date. This could actually help your petition. :)

Hi there! My husband and I also met in FFXI and we disregarded any ingame interactions as our evidence, but did include a few things from MSN and Skype. When the IO asked how we met, we explained how we met in FFXI, but beyond that our ingame time was not brought up again. The main focus of our evidence was on our time spent together IRL.

Married since 03/02/2011, AOS from F-1 visa, green card granted 05/24/2011.
Blessed with a healthy baby boy, 08/19/2011! We get to keep our family together! Thank you! smile.png

Use MSN/Skype logs, evidence that you met in person (pictures, receipts, passport stamps, boarding passes, etc.). My fiance and I also met in an online game and he thought we should send in things from when we played the game together but I think that's kind of weird... we had an in-game "wedding" as well but sincerely I think that proves nothing. But that's my opinion.

They couldn't care less if you've spent five centuries of online and phone time together. All they want to know about is the real-life interactions. We met online and were engaged for four years, and spent several hours on the phone together every day. During all that time we were only in the same room for two weeks(neither of us could afford more than one plane ticket!) If I recall, we sent in a couple of pages of chat from Trillian, and John's online phone statement that showed how many hours he'd spend talking to Australia in the last year. I don't think they really cared about any of it except the evidence of my visit. They never even ASKED me anything about it in my interview. So don't spend too much time worrying about how to present online evidence. Just state 'we met in X circumstances and had an ongoing relationship from X date' etc. If they really want to know, they'll ask you...

My husband and I also met in an MMORPG, and we are not using any in-game screenshots or chatlogs, or anything like that. If they ask how we met, we'll just tell them about it. I agree that in-game stuff won't make much, if any, difference in the end--but I doubt it would hurt anything, either. We have concentrated on photos, phone bills, receipts for travel and gifts, letters from friends and family, that sort of thing.

I have included a sampling of chat logs from Yahoo Messenger (which we use for voice chat), but honestly, they have no way of knowing it's us since it just shows our Yahoo login names. So I doubt they set much store in those, really. But I tossed them in anyway.

Best of luck to you.

Thank-you everyone for your helpful advice! I'll put more emphasis on time spent IRL and use the chatlog evidence just as a pre-meeting supplement (it can't hurt to include) since we had a relationship going for at least two years prior to our first meeting.

I'll diligently read the links you sent to be sure I do everything precisely, and yes, I'm filing for the IR-1/CR-1. =)

Best of luck and be sure to ask questions if you don't understand something! I think the most important part is to read, read, read (well that and to follow instructions). :D
