It was really a side issue anyway, the question was posed ' do both of my in-laws fill out I-864A forms ' which i correctly answered,

No, that was incorrect too and has been correctly answered. When using a joint sponsor, the primary earner or head of household can only properly disclose their true household size by completing an I-864. So, married joint sponsor's need to complete one I-864 and one I-864a. Sometimes people manage to get through the other way. It is not absolutely incorrect, just not a best practice.

Please stop defending your reasons for making these mistakes. It doesn't help the OP or any other reader.

Simo.... I have seen so many questions from you lately about this process. The I864 is a very important document that honestly, I believe your wife should be inquiring about since you are still very confused with all the answers you have been given. She needs to have her PARENTS who are co sponsoring you read the I864 Instructions in great detail so as they know exactly what they are signing. Does your wife even know about Visa Journey? have you shown her your profile page and what others here have told you about this process?

This is very quiet simple Simo, you need to tell your wife to pull up the I864 form and instructions online and give it to her parents as they are the ones needing the info.

The correct way to handle the affidavit of support issue depends on the exact details of the circumstances. However, the method you describe above is only correct when the parents and petitioner need to combine their income to qualify. If the parents qualify on their own, this MIGHT work but is not the best way to do it. If you do it as described above, not only does the petitioner need to show evidence of being a household member but the parents also need to show evidence they are either US Citizens or LPR's. The parents need to do THAT regardless.

Again, the only way to correctly and accurately disclose the household size of the joint sponsor(s) is by using the I-864. The method I gave will ALWAYS work unless the petitioner's income needs to be combined with the household members' to qualify. It also avoids counting the petitioner in the qualified sponsor's household size. That's often a huge factor.

In short,

Your wife files I-864

And,

If your mother-in-law has sufficient income individually:-

Just file another I-864 and mention she is the only Joint sponsor.

If not, If your father-in-law has sufficient income individually:-

Just file another I-864 and mention he is the only Joint sponsor.

If neither has enough enough income individually, have one of them fill out I-864 and the other I-864a to combine their income to show affidavit of support.

Hope this helps. Please correct me if I misstated something.

This MIGHT work if the individual who files a joint return can provide sufficient evidence of their personal current income. Shortcuts can be dangerous. I've already given you the best practice. Proceed at your own risk.
