Help with what to do next

Hi,

Can someone offer me a bit of advice please - the website instructions on the London Embassy site are a little confusing.

I am filing for a spouse visa and the Embassy have sent me a letter to say they have received my filing. I have now collated all the documents I need and have completed form I-864, DS-230 I/II and the DS-2001 checklist. I am yet to schedule my medical.

Do I need to send me completed forms to the Embassy? The letter states not to send any documentation until requested (I assume this means birth certificate, police form etc) but also states an interview will not be scheduled until receipt of the forms (DS-230 I/II, DS-2001) and completion of the medical.

Do I hold onto the I-864, DS-230 I/II and the DS-2001 and send once I've completed the medical or do I send them to the Embassy now and then schedule my medical when it's convenient for me?

I assume I hold on to birth/marriage certificate, police form etc until the interview date?

There are two processes. Did the US citizen spouse file the I-130 petition to USCIS in America or directly to the USCIS office in London because he/she lives in the UK. If you would make a timeline, it would help people who want to help you.

Because you skip the NVC process, your London part is similar to a K1 but with different forms.

Now that you responded that you are doing DCF, there is a good thread going in the UK forum that will help you get the best answers.

Have you got your case number yet? I got mine on Friday so we will be about at the same stage as you. If you have your case number (sounds like you have from the wording in the letter) you can schedule your medical at a time that is convenient for you. I will schedule mine probably next week when i know what day i can go. Then send off the DS-230 part 1 ONLY (take part 2 to the interview) and DS-2001 with a cover letter telling them when your medical will be and when you plan to travel (not required but can help if you have plans). Do not send any documents like police certificate, birth certificate or the I-864. These need to be taken to the interview (with photocopies).

Perfect, thanks Holly (and Nick) - I'm at exactly the same stage, I have the medical next Thursday. I will get the two forms in the post and hang on to everything else. Any ideas how long the interview+processing time is from this point Holly?

Ohh we are right at the same stage. I had my medical today (was originally next thursday too but i got a cancellation!). Once you get the forms in the post (asap if you are wanting to move quickly) and they have received them, they will schedule for interview. You might wait several weeks for a date and the date could be 6 weeks away from then. But you could receive the date in two weeks time and it could be for 4 days time. It isnt really something that can be predicted at the moment because it's been all over the place.

On my cover letter i put that my medical was on the 30th but then it was changed after i sent it. I havent bothered to update them because it's only a week and they will get my results anyway so it doesnt matter. So im hoping to hear when my interview will be sometime next week if im lucky. It's been two weeks since i sent the forms back now.

One other question on the DS-230 Part 1 - this says 'complete this for yourself and each member of your family' - does this mean my wife also needs to complete this form, or does 'yourself' in this context mean just me as the beneficiary?

The end of the sentence is "who will immigrate with you". Basically all of the people who a petition was filed for. Only you need to do one.
