Hi All,

I am new to VJ. My fiance and i filed for our k-1 visa at the end of last month and have requested expedited processing because he is in the military and has an upcoming deployment early next year. We have faxed off his Military ID and now are just waiting to find out if it will be approved for expediting or not. I wondered if anyone else has been through this and how long it takes for them to make a decision, and then once the decision is made, if it is in our favour, how long the processing then takes.

BY the way - we are using a FANTASTIC attorney and i would recommend them to anyone who is thinking about applying for a k-1 visa who doesnt already have an attorney. They have a wonderful online system that is user friendly, and also the 3 people in the assigned team to our case are the loveliest people ever and are so smart and helpful. Contact me if you want their info.

Look forward to your replies,

Thanks

Jodie

From my understanding, K1's are unable to be expedited, even due to military deployments??

It was one of the reasons we decided to go down the CR-1 route instead, as we need to get the visa through before my husband PCS' to Germany.

Do you have a link on that? As far as I know, you can expedite any petition because of a deployment..You just have to call the military helpline for the USCIS. There isnt anything to do at the NVC level to expedite it because they only assign the MNL case number for a K1.

There you go - we didn't need to get married after all ;) However, we didn't want to deal with the hassle of adjusting status also, which was another reason why we went down the route.

Yeah adjustment of status can be a pain, but depending on how things fall, going the K1 route can be a little cheaper, but I am glad we did the CR1 route especially with doing the wedding in the PI. We had a really nice wedding and I know I couldnt have afforded something like what we did in the US.
