Hello,

I will be marrying my fiance in Malaysia on October 16th. After that we will begin our visa process. But I am a little confused as to what we need to do. I am not sure if we should get a lawyer. He is an Afghan citizen who has been living and studying in Malaysia since 2010. Not sure if we need to go through the embassy in Malaysia or Afghanistan? And what will he need from Afghanistan? Feeling overwhelmed and so is he :(

Also I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to place it.

Thank you for any help!!

Filed: Citizen (apr) Country: Canada
Timeline

SInce he's legally in Malaysia he can interview there. If his student visa expires, he must go home and not fall out of status in Malaysia, that would mean he could not interview there

He'll need a police certificate from Afghanistan

Good luck

My wife is indonesian but we DCF'd through Riyadh (Saudi)

Since we lived there she interviewed there. Your husband will interview where he lives at the time of the interview date.

The reciprocity tables list Afghanistan police certificates as "may be available but not reliable". It is unlikely that a police certificate will be required however email the IV office (Immigrant Visa) and ask them that specific question. The tables on that country are non-specific

Your husband's address should be where he lives in Malaysia.

Further info on police certificates:

No police certificate was required for my wife from her home country Indonesia at Riyadh embassy interview in 2011 (on the tables as unreliable) but they were required for her original interview (K3) in Jakarta in 2008. Go figure.

Best of luck!
