Which forms to complete for green card for my spouse?

Would appreciate any assistance/direction.

I am a US citizen newly married to an immigrant from Africa who came here on a B1/B2 visa four years ago. We get a lot of support from family and thus he has not really been working, mainly in that he has been unable to find work legally. He does help manage his uncles export business, but not for a salary. I receive child support sufficient to cover our bills, but I have no income. We have one child together.

As I have no income beyond my child support, we have a friend who is willing to co-sponsor and is well over the minimum income to do so for our combined family size.

What I need to know is, outside of the co-sponsorship forms, what forms do we need to complete specifically to begin the process of applying for green card? Is it possible that we can find our way without the help of a lawyer?

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
