Hi everyone. I've done searches before on ITIN and I just want to confirm the info that I've read. Just wanted to know, it's perfectly fine for my wife and I to apply for an ITIN for her right? There shouldn't be any issue with her getting her visa correct? (we're already approved and NVC just completed our case). Do I need to worry about her ITIN coming up during our interview? Thanks in advance :)

well my hubby applied for my ITIN before he filed for petition. I don't think its gonna be a problem in regards to interview.

05/29/12 - AOS bill appears as PAID
06/01/12 - IV Bill Invoiced & PAID ($230 x2)
06/04/12 - IV Bill Shows PAID
06/15/12 - AOS & IV Packages sent
07/02/12 - RFE email received
07/06/12 - Sent NSO copy of MC and BC
07/16/12 - Case Complete (2nd Wedding Anniversary)
08/01/12 - Interview Date Assigned -->>>>(Sept.5, 2012@ 6:15am)

There is no need to have it for the interview. Once she gets here you can get her a social security number.

but looking at your timeline you were married last year (2011). you could file as married and use an ITIN at that time.

It may have reduced your taxes. You can still look into doing that with a 1040X.

When my wife's EAD didn't seem to be coming along in a quick fashion, I also looked into getting her an ITIN, only to find out that it'll take no less than 6-8 weeks to get her one. I just decided to wait until the EAD was approved.

I really don't think it would have any negative effect on the interview, however.

2012-10-22 (Day 165): Approved on the Spot!

2019-12-18: Sworn in as United States Citizen!

We got one and didn't affect our visa at all. It's only for tax purposes and nothing else. When you do get your SSN, you should inform Social Security that you have an ITIN as well so they can combine the records. :thumbs:

Total elapsed time between filing I-129F to GC in hand 569 days or 1 Year, 6 months, 22 days.
