Family name discrepancy on I-129F

Hi experts,

My fiance is applying for a new passport and will have her name written based on her National Number Document and Birth Certificate, which is as follows:

Axxxx Hxxxxx Sxxxxx Oxxxx

The I-129F and G-325A forms were filed on 5/14/2012 with her name written as follows:

First: Axxxx

Middle: Hxxxxxxx

Family: Txxxxxxx

I am concerned that this will cause problems down the road, and would like your advice.

Please bear in mind that my fiances family name is indeed Txxxxxxx however it is not reflected on her civil documents because in Sudan official documents contain four names maximum.

Thanks,

Talal

Hi Talal,

I am Sudanese too & completely understand the mess created by the people in charge of the official paperwork here.

Not sure what would happen in your situation but you might get a request for evidence. Hoping that someone who has had a similar experience can help you out.

I only posted to give you the heads up about your fiance's new passport: Make sure when she applies for it her NND (on her passport) matches the one on the document...some people now have two different NND's because they didn't think such an error could be made. See what I mean by mess? :D

Hi Louza,

I just received my NOA2 with approved petition, this is unbelievable :D I actually called the USCIS office this morning and informed them of my dilemma, they simply asked me to send in a letter describing the name discrepancy and they will sort it out.

I agree with you 100%, governmental agencies have a tendency to make a mess out of small things such as NND's. But I will make sure she gets her information entered correctly.

So I will call them up tomorrow and find out what needs to be done now that my petition is approved.

Br,

Talal

Thank you for the well wishes. By the way I heard rumors that they will start processing Immigrant Visa's in Sudan (as they only process tourist visa's) but I didn't think it would happen & today we got our case number & according to the first 3 letters my interview will be in Khartoum (KHF) & not Egypt (CRO).

I am checking the embassy website now & it still says that Immigrant Visa's aren't being processed. I will keep checking it everyday until it's updated & if it isn't updated then we might have a problem. :/

Hey Louza,

They are just that, rumors! The embassy in Sudan does not have the manpower and competence to process immigrant visa's, and I heard it is likely to stay that way for sometime. Also please bear in mind that the NVC case number is in fact correct, usually the letters KHF/CRO refer to the applicants citizenship not place of interview. I know this for a fact because I just located it on my parents documentation, it starts with KHF and then the year 2012 for which your case is being processed and so forth. Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Thanks for responding Talal but the letters in the case number don't indicate citizenship but the place of the interview. I read this on the Travel State website & on this forum. I decided I will call the US Embassy here to ask them about this.

Case Number: The National Visa Center (NVC) gives each immigrant petition a case number. This number has three letters followed by ten digits (numbers). The three letters are an abbreviation for the overseas embassy or consulate that will process the immigrant visa case (for example, GUZ for Guangzhou, CDJ for Ciudad Juarez).

The digits tell us exactly when NVC created the case. For example a case with the number MNL2001747003 would be a case assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Manila. 2001 is the year in which NVC received the case from the USCIS (formerly INS). The Julian date is 747 plus 500, so this case was created on September 4, 2001, the 247th day of the year. The 003 shows that it was the third case created for Manila on that day. This case number is not the same as the USCIS receipt number, which is written on the Notice of Action, Form I-797, from the USCIS. A consular section abroad cannot find a case if all you have is the USCIS receipt number.

And I honestly hope for once the rumors are correct.

Hi Louza,

I did some research and here is what I gathered. The NVC generates these case numbers with KHF/CRO depending on where the visa interview will take place. So when the case number begins with KHF (place of interview Khartoum)it gets routed there. Since the U.S Embassy in Sudan does not handle Immigration cases, the case gets routed to the nearest U.S Embassy having jurisdiction over Sudan, in this case it's EGYPT. The NVC know's off hand that the U.S Embassy in Sudan will not handle your case, but it send's it with a KHF number anyway for many reasons, the most obvious one is Medical exam. The U.S Embassy sends you a package with the Medical examiner in your area based on that case number KHF.

On a last note, my parents checklist documents arrived from NVC with KHF case number and the address was U.S Embassy in Sudan, but the remaining fields had the address for U.S Embassy in Egypt :hehe:

Did you call the U.S Embassy in Sudan?

^Thank you for clarifying Talal my husband & I have been arguing about this since Wednesday lol!

SERIOUSLY!? Urgh! Then I guess I am traveling to Egypt.

Did you call the U.S Embassy in Sudan?

I did but no answer. Will call back again Sunday.

Also did your parents get there medical done in Sudan? How long did it take for Dr. Asma ElSony to hand them the sealed envelope of results? Contacting the center where she works is proving to be a nightmare..the phone is either disconnected or nobody answers. I am trying to figure out how much time I will need before traveling to finish the medical check up.

Yes my parents got their medical done with Dr. Asma Elsony. I think they received the sealed envelope within 2-weeks. I have to tell you though, that lady is something else, you better come prepared or she will torture you :bonk:

What do you mean come prepared? Prepared for what? If you don't mind the question, what did she do to your parents?!

I think its so stupid that they have ONE doctor assigned for immigration purposes.

Oh & how much does her physical examination cost? Are the xrays & lab tests done at the center where she works at or do they refer people elsewhere? Did your parents have any issues with the vaccinations?

I really wish they put all of this info on the US Embassy Khartoum website...everything is up-to-date on the Cairo site!

Sorry I have so many questions but you're probably the only active Sudanese member on this entire forum!

Hi Louza,

That's fine, I too have many questions and it's good to see other Sudanese members active on this portal besides myself. All the x-rays, and lab test's are done in the same clinic. I do not recall how much my parents paid for them, but it did cost an arm and a leg like everything else in Sudan, right. No issues with any vaccination.

Ok Louza here is what I mean by COME PREPARED; The doctor and her clerk both have serious attitude problems. The doctor will tear you apart if you do not come prepared for the medical examination. I haven't read the instructions on the medical package, but I assume they talk about what the applicant should prepare for when going to the medical check up, so basically if she senses that the applicant has not read/understood these instructions then she will immediately give them attitude for not coming prepared.

She is basically looking to pick a fight for some reason, this is what my mom came out with after meeting her. My father was smart about it and controlled his temper when he was there.

So my advice to who ever has to deal with her is to just stay calm when they are there and not to allow her any chance of getting at them.

Does that help?

Talal
