Birth and Police Certificates in Haiti

My fiance has a copy of his birth certificate that he obtained a few years ago. I suggested that he get another copy in case there's an issue with the other one, and so that he has two certified copies. He explained that it was difficult for him to get the first copy because they had his name wrong (didn't include his second first name/middle name) and he had to get a lawyer to help resolve the issue.

Does anyone have any insight into this process? If he had to hire a lawyer to fix it the first time, shouldn't it be permanently fixed? How long does it take to get a birth certificate in Haiti and how much does it cost? Am I right in thinking he should get another certified copy to have on hand "just in case"?

As far as the police certificate, in a different thread about Haiti, someone said it is not required. Is that accurate information? Even if it's not required, should he get one just in case someone asks for it? And if he does get it, he should get one for every city he's lived/worked in since the age of 16, correct?

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Mesi anpil!

Hi Selavi, you are at the wrong topics, you need to look at k1 visas.

As far as i know he will need a birth certificate for k1 visa but not for the i 751(they ask a copy back and fort of the green card and driver's license).

You sumbit to the papers only a copy and not the original one.Is good to have the original one at a interview.

Good luck, sorry i do not know the answers to your other questions.

Hello,

The birth certificate must be the original from Haiti archives. I didnt think the Haiti consulate required a

police certificate. My fiancé said the consulate called him and told him to get one and he did.

Ok, thanks Barbie! I'm going to tell him to get another copy just in case. I just don't want there to be any issues. It looks like the extract of the birth certificate (short form) is ok. I'll also just make sure he gets the police certificate. Don't want to leave that to chance either. Thanks again!
