Hi All.

For those who have completed the application for the national police check - did you apply for a code 33 or code 35 check?

I believe it is code 35 but I figured I should check. There don't seem to be any guides covering this.

I have found a guide for Canada that covers it (code 35), but that doesn't exactly help :P

Hi, When I went for my police check for my K1 Visa I was never asked for a code. I went to the police station and told them that I needed a police check with fingerprints for a US visa. They did it that day, within an hour if i remember correctly. And I think it cost $120 or $150. But don't quote me on the price.

Thanks for the reply.

My understanding is that since it is to be processed by the AFP, the local police station is only involved for the purpose of collecting fingerprints.

The current AFP form can be found here.

I spoke to my local police station this afternoon. They told me to have the paperwork/copies of ID ready in a pre-paid envelope. They will put the prints in there and send them once they are done as they can't hand them to me.

So all I am missing is that code. I will call the AFP help desk if no one knows.. I am only posting because when I called earlier it was a 1.5 hour wait!

I did mine in Victoria and application didn't ask me about the code.

My police check was written- the purpose of the certificate is for oversea visa application.

Sorry, can't answer your question.

But I guess should be 35.

Because code 33 is for Australia immigration.

Hi

I recently got my police check done in NSW, it required completion of an online form where I specified Name and Fingerprint check, took a printout and then went to the local police station. There is no need for addressed envelope etc. The addressed envelope is if you want the fingerprints to be sent to some other countries police department etc.

Please check the following link for police clearance as specified by the US Embassy in Australia http://canberra.usembassy.gov/obtain_police_cert.html

Thanks for the reply. I wonder how I came to the conclusion it was an AFP check. I've read too many pieces of conflicting information.

I guess the NSW police check is the right now then. Thanks.

The NSW police check is national - or do you mean it has to be done by the AFP?

The embassy link as posted by Ni & Pa states:

If you reside in New South Wales

Make an appointment, and then appear in person to be fingerprinted at your local police station. You must pay the fee of A$175 (subject to change, please check the current fee with the police) and complete an application form. Please ensure you complete form P800 (full disclosure), which the police will forward to:

Please find further details on the New South Wales Police website.

The embassy link as posted by Ni & Pa states:

This is what i'm dealing with now - the NVC told me on the phone that we need TWO police clearances for australia?!? if so it's really going to delay us because i only sent NSW as per the paragraph you quoted - it could be another 30 business days for AFP! :(

Well, I do believe they are wrong. It seems like the NVC operators can be fairly hit and miss with their information :\

I've completed my NSW National Police Check as per the embassy link. It does state on mine that there are no disclosable outcomes matching my details/fingerprints with Australian Police Services.

I bit the $99 bullet and ordered the AFP as well just in case - we've got an empty house in america we're already paying mortgage on, and we need to get to it! :)

I just did my Police Check. I live in the ACT, but the check is conducted by the AFP (Australian Federal Police) it is a National Check. I asked which code to use and was told to check box 33.

Good luck!!

Which, according to the Australian US Embassy website, is the correct process for residents of the ACT.

However once again, for NSW residents, it states..

Make an appointment, and then appear in person to be fingerprinted at your local police station. You must pay the fee of A$175 (subject to change, please check the current fee with the police) and complete an application form. Please ensure you complete form P800 (full disclosure)

..which is exactly what I did.

EDIT: Since there seems to be a lot of conflicting information provided by the NVC, I am going to include a printout of the embassy page in my IV packet (still waiting for them to accept my DS-3032 so I can pay/send!).

I think that is a great idea. We also had some NVC-generated confusion regarding the police checks (as I posted about on another thread), so I am bringing a similar printout to the interview. We also emailed the consulate and asked our specific question, and I'm bringing those emails, too. You might try emailing them--we received prompt replies.

The NVC seems to be very confused about Australian police certificates, and I can only imagine it causes a lot of wasted time and money. Best of luck to you in getting it sorted out!
