I have not been on since January when my fiancee' in USA submitted our K1 I-129 visa. On Januray 27th it was recievd. On July 5th they asked for further information confirming my WIFES death ( origianl certificate ) AND My Fiancee's Divorce from the Courts not the Nisi.

Question is now that the document were mailed back to VERMONT... How much more time do we wait? I have been reading and collecting things for Packet 3 and Wonder how long it will take before that is sent to me in Canada? Or do I CALL confirming a Montreal case number has been assigned.

ALSO, I was reading somewhere that it could take another 2 months for packet 4 and my interview assigment.

I have collected my long for birth certificate

I have my police check done canada wide

I renewed my passport to make sure it was not going to expire in Novemeber

I have my blood work done to verify my vacination record and got a Dtap shot as well.

Any help on how I am doing so far.

I know I will have an issue with my fiancee's ability to support me and we will need a sponsor so when do I start that?

Any help from ALL the PRO's out there would be so appreciated. SORRY to cover so much and confuse everyone.

Thank you... Anxious in Winnipeg.

Just a quick correction. Your fiancé (USC petitioner) has filed an I-129F application, once that is approved, then it goes through NVC, the package is sent to Consulate, and then you get notification that you (beneficiary) can apply for K1. For better understanding, please click the K1 guide link on my signature.

If you fill out your timeline correctly, you will get a time estimate based on other VJ members going through the same process. It even adjusts for the RFE. This is a great benefit to VJ members. Plus, your timeline helps other VJ members.

Once you receive your NOA2 (approval notice of I-129F petition) things move a little quicker.

Here is a link for the Canadian portal if you haven't already checked it out. Click here

On the right hand side there are quick links to Montreal and Vancouver Consulate. Click on the one for you and there is some great information for you.

As for the Affidavit of Support, she should start finding a suitable person now. That will be needed for your interview for the K1.

Make sure your police check doesn't expire. Some countries have a quick expiration date, others are longer.

Hope this helps a little

Good Luck

Thank you so much... stress is an understatement at this point. Being 56 and starting a new life in USA does not come with out anxious moments because of the process. Thanks for all you help.

I did go to the site you recommended and view MONTREAL. I did not see before the 3 photo's for the medical? This caught me off guard but if necessary you do it right? How soon can I have my medical done? I am traveling Sept 24 th to visit my fiancee and when I pass through ontario I wonder if I can see the recommended Dr now or do I need my montreal case number first?

I too have been working on the 134 document and trying to get a sponsor with sufficient income. While I am a retired banker with substantial net worth I know this does not mean anything but hopefully they will consider it as a positive knowing I will not be a burden to the country.

thanks again... anything else you recomend please share.

Welcome to the club ;-)

I do believe you at least need the MTL number before getting a medical done. Some of the reviews I read on here, they ask for packet 4 at the examination. I have read recommendations to schedule the medical a week before the interview in Montreal and stay there. There is also this Canada K-1 Guide that may help.

As far as how long it will take, the Immigration Timeline at the top has all sorts of statistics you can look at. As of right now, the average between NOA2 and Consulate is 28 days, and the time to interview from then is about 79 days at Montreal (on average). I would estimate about 4 more months from now until the interview when you add in the RFE wait.

EDIT:

I searched for Winnipeg residents that did this, and they went through Vancouver. Their processing time is a little faster, at 51 days.

The medical exam is best done AFTER you've scheduled the interview (you get to schedule it when packet 4 is logged; Montreal schedules interviews for spouses not fiances). The reason the medical exam is best done after you have an interview date is because it can take awhile for interview slots to open at Montreal and you want your medical to be as current as possible- not just for the interview at Montreal but also for adjustment of status (AOS) which is the process you go through once you're in the US to obtain a green card. For AOS you need a medical exam that is less than a year old, and you can use the same exam that you get in Canada. However if it expires you need to re-do the medical exam in the US and that's another $200-$300 on top of the $1090 AOS filing fee.

And yeah you also need a MTL number before you can do the exam, most of the medical exam places need to see packet 3 or 4.

For the I-134 they don't really care about the canadian's income. They want proof that a US citizen meets 125% of the poverty guidelines. If it's just going to be you two (husband/wife) the poverty guidelines for two people is something really low like $19,000 (that's not an exact number but it's around that.)

thanks Rob and Monica.... Yeah... I see Vancouver being quicker too. I have family in Ontario ( London ) and It was only a 6 hour drive to visit my fiancee in Mass as well. I wish I could change it now but dont think that is possible... May be tight on Jan 5th wedding. Appreciate your reply and help.

At this point the RFE has been sent back by her this week and now its wait and wait. If you know about changing to Vancouver can you advise. I could not find it anywhere in the site. Being stuck in Winnipeg either way is doable except I saw the MEDICAL place in Vancouver is closing so not sure what would happen then.

thanks again.
