Hi,

As we are soon scheduled for CR1 Mumbai interview, wanted to know if its mandatory to have the passport with visa mailed "couriered" home or if theres any option or way to request it to be picked up in person, such as the day after the interview.

My wife, being from Kolkata is planning to stay a additional day after the interview and it would be nice if can return back with that in posession.

Any ideas? Thanks

If you can pick up your passport before 5:30 pm ( same day ), then you can get it from VFS Mumbai, otherwise it will be mailed after 6:30 pm thru BlueDart. Sometimes visa may not be ready same day, so you may have to wait for next day.

As per my experience, I did not get my passport on the same day. finally after two days i got it through courier.

You can track your passport on VFS website. Also if you call the courier guys, they can track it for you.

You also get SMs from VSF regarding the status of the passport handover from consulate to blue dart etc..

Is that a standard time frame setup by VFS in which applicants can pickup their Visa envelope with Passport on the same day? My wife is going to fly back around 10pm the same day back home after her interview is complete.

I would recomennd having VFS deliver you the passport , because there is not garuntee the visa would be ready the same day or next day or couple of days later.

It would be expensive to stay back in mumbai waiting for passport.

True, waiting specially in Mumbai just to get visa/passport in hand does not make any sense. But it's also good to carry with you if your already planned trip has an extra time to check with VFS to see if it's done.

Didn't know where else to write my issue.

My wife's interview is on 27th September at Mumbai.

We gathered all documents that need to be submitted to VFS. When my wife/In-law went to submit the documents at VFS, they refused to accept the documents.

The reason they gave is - "Their procedure has changed. All the interviews that fall after the 25th day of the month will need to carry the documents with them to the interview. OK. So we asked if they could give that to us in writing so we wouldn't have any problems on the date of the interview. They refused to do that.

They asked us to contact Delhi consulate or embassy (I'm unclear since it was my In-laws who went, lets say consulate for the purpose of this post).

We call Delhi consulate, they asked us to E-Mail them, and said they would reply as to what we should do next.

Currently, we're waiting for the reply.

My question - Has anyone ever heard of similar situation? Any suggestion? Anything at all?

Yes..the procedure has changed from Sep 26th but all r unclear what is the procedure for Immigrant Visa or K1 visa.

For Non-Immigrant Visas they hav mentioned how to make appointments and provide fingerprints in advance at OFC [Offsite Facilitation Center] but they haven't mentioned anythg for Immigrant Visas. Yesterday there was also a webchat on US Consulate Mumbai's website abt this change of procedure starting Sep 26...They will post in Facebook soon transcript and details of the webchat...U must now wait for email from Embassy and do as they Instruct..

By the way if ur Consulate is Mumbai...why did u emailed New Delhi Consulate..??? U must have contacted Mumbai Consualte instead...Anyways jus wait for the reply and pls do inform here what it says...All other members will be benefited form ur post.

Thanks for the reply.

I made a mistake on previous post. We contacted the VFS in Delhi, not the consulate. And the reason for that is because we were instructed to do so by the VFS in Mumbai (Mumbai VFS was unable to answer further question). I'm assuming the reason for contacting Delhi VFS is that it might be the Central/Main one for the country. (Similar to Embassy and Consulate, there is only one Embassy but several consulates per country)

I'll post a reply when I get an update.

You might have seen this thread already but in case you haven't.

It's about the change of process for those who are interviewing after 26th September at Mumbai consulate.

As for me, I'm doing what everyone is doing.
