Since July 2011, I have been using a smart roaming sim so Rose can easily contact me, but since yesterday I have been unable to get any signal. Does anyone know if the sim expires after 13 months (approximately)?

Did your fiancé ever reload the balance in the Philippines? Yes, they will expire otherwise. I have a Smart roaming sim card, and everyone couple of months I have my fiancé load 100 pesos on it, and so far it's still working.

But it's weird, I wouldn't think you'd have signal problems, the phone itself should still see signal for that card, it might not work, but if you're not seeing any signal, I'd suspect the phone maybe, or maybe the SIM card has to be reseated inside?

The load will expire but not the sim. Even if no load you can still receive a text. Mine is over 2 years old and going strong. Mine uses ATT, try taking the phone for a ride and see if you can get a signal. When you start up the phone does it search for a network, could be a phone problem also I guess.

i have globe roaming. but so far i know most roaming does expired esp if you don't put load every few months for globe 4-5mths not sure w/smart sim.

my suggestion buy another sim card and make sure every few months ask your fiance to pasaload..means transfer load...or go online e-pinoypinay.com they have load for globe and smart..you could even add loads for your love ones in pinas in cheap price $3.75 for 150 pesos load.

and also for free text to pinas...go to your fb and find chikkalite (free 30 text/day)

goodluck.

It is strange, I tried it in both of my phones and getting no signal on either. No problems in the 13 months previously. Thanks for the replies...

If ROAM is off, you will not get a signal, if you registered your phones on the Smart site, you can turn ROAM ON online.

Go to smart`s website http://smart.com.ph/ , sign up for web connect. after signing in to web connect click on services on the left side of the screen. then click on international roaming. then activate the roaming feature. Will take about 1 hour for activation go through.

In the last 24 hours there has been extremely bad rains from the Typhoon off the coast. Schools are all closed today in Manila and people are dying.. We have had some signal problems with our phones calling/texting locally. SO if its a signal problem and it just started yesterday I would bet that its because of the weather.

If it just happened today there have been strong and deadly storms around Manila. My fiancee has dual sim and did not load her Globe for months and just recently her Globe sim went bad. I believe others are correct if you did not load in a long time the sim will go inactive.

I had the same thing happen to me recently with my Smart Roaming Sim. I have been using for 7 months now so my mahal can text me here in Afghanistan. I tried 3 different phones and it STILL wouldn't get a signal if it was set on Automatic. So I finally ended up buying a pos phone for like $25, and having to do it manual set up with network.

If Rose has Internet service you may want to send her a Magic Jack. My wife and I have them at her parents and grandparents house in the Philippines. It come with a US phone number so you can call her and she can call you any time she wants. It only cost 19.99 a year for service. May cost less to just get Internet service for her if she doesn't already have it. You can get them at your local best buy or Walmart.

SMART SIMM cards have a validity of 120 days without any funding. You have been very lucky to have made it this far.

Check out Gmail SMS and your girl can reply to you for P1.00

In the alternative, have her get a GLOBE SIMM card and avail the GLOBE DUO INTERNATIONAL program which will give YOU a local USA phone number that call forwards to your girl's SIMM/phone. You can pay the P999/mo fee for this service yourself online.

Globe Duo International is a great service and have used it for over 6 months and we have been very happy with it. But the fee's have gone up to 25USD for 1 month..

We have a SMART roaming that we have had since end of 2009, beginning of 2010. I hadn't loaded it since my wife arrived with me in may 2010. it has worked the whole time, up to our trip in July 2012 (still working now). We were just down in the philippines and when I turned the roaming on it told me I had to keep at least 100 peso load on it....originally when my wife bought the sim for me it said there was no maintaining balance for it. I guess they "revised" the terms of use on it.

I'v had my Smart Pinoy sims for over 2 years, I used up the load many times, or at least not enough load left to send a text message. Don't use for voice all I do is text the PI at 10P a text, a 500P load "$12.50" will last a couple of months. A new load will expire in 120 days, but the sim will expire only after 1 year of zero balance.
