I'm student at school and will graduate this month. I will start working full time after graduation, but I didn't have much income or asset. I asked a retired friend be a cosponsor on the I-864.

1. Is social security benefit considered as income?

2. Do I wait to prepare I-864 till I start working fulltime? Is it better to attach an employment letter from my job? I have an job offer starting in September, annual salary is $57,000.

Thanks.

All annuities and pensions are considered as part of income. What can't be included are income derived from government subsidies such as SSI (Social security supplemental Income) as it is a form of welfare income.

Are you in the United States currently and adjusting status? If so, on what basis are you adjusting status? Do you have authorization to work in the United States without the green card (an EAD)? If so, and presuming your income will continue from the same source after you adjust status, then you can sponsor yourself.

Social Security retirement is qualifying income.

Actually I'm a U.S. citizen here. I'm trying to get my mom here. As I mention in the previous post, I don't have much income since I'm still in school until September.

So social security benefit is considered income, that's great! In my situation, is it better to wait for I start working full time, and then submit I864 with my employment letter? Thanks for everyone's reply.
