Hey guys,

My fiancee added me to her account in the US when I was over there last, so we're now sharing a joint account.

Recently, I transferred a decent amount of cash over to the account so that she could pay deposits for wedding things (cake, etc).

I have a receipt from my bank stating transfer of funds from my bank account to our bank account -- with both of our names specified in the 'recipient' box: is this something I should be making light of / taking to interview as proof or is it something I should sort of keep to myself?

Obviously as a [hopefully] soon-to-be-married couple, we have no issue co-mingling our assets but I wonder if the consulate might get a bit shirty about the idea of me "sending her money" even if that's not the case at all or even if they might get funny about having a joint account?

Hi,

You misunderstood me. I transferred the funds, that isn't the problem -- I'm asking if, at interview, I should mention the joint account/transfer of money as evidence of a bona fide relationship or whether I should keep it in the down low.

I have heard horror stories about money being transferred to an account fiancee shares being used as evidence of "paying" for the visa by certain more paranoid consular officials.

I wouldn't bring it up unless they ask you to bring it up. but in the end its a joint account not there bank account. it seems theres a 1/50 chance they will ask you for more evidence and even then photos and skype logs should be enough.

Personally I am going to wait until a few days before I move to make the transfer.

It appears that you are worried that the consulate will thinking you are paying her to marry you so you can gain entry to the US? With this not being the case why dont you have your fiancee send you copies of receipts or bank statements that shows the money you sent her are being spent on your forthcoming wedding? That way you have evidence of co-mingling funds which should support your case for visa approval backed up with evidence that you are spending the money on your wedding

I agree. They do not look for or expect engaged couples to co-mingle assets and show said proof. Plus as you pointed out, they could see it instead as some kind of 'payment'. I would only do this if all my other evidence for the bona fide/ongoing relationship were anemic.
