Are you petitioning for a spousal visa based on being the spouse of a US citizen? Or another type of family visa?

If it is a spousal visa and you are at NVC stage, it should take a couple of months or less to interview, so getting to the US by Christmas is realistic.

*** Moving from Bringing Family to CR-1 visa, as this is a spousal visa case ****

Yes I interviewed in Dublin. They are very nice and easy going, but do want the paperwork filled out very correctly, so double check everything you send the embassy. Also, the photos must be exactly correct- there is a chemist just across the bridge from the embassy that does good photos, even got our little babies done there. The interview itself, especially if you lived with your spouse in Ireland, will be quick, 20 minutes or less. But do budget a half day to be there, because it takes a while to get through security and then wait for other people to get done.

You will want your kids' CRBA (consular record of birth abroad) done before your interview. They will not give you your visa until the kids' passports are approved. The passports, if approved, will not be given there and then, but come in the post a few weeks later, so if you haven't started applying for the kids' CRBA, do that asap. Check out our CRBA forum here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/154-consular-reports-of-birth-abroad-crba/
