Hi, we recently went through the Madrid consulate for K1. You can find info in other threads about calling NVC and seeing if they've received your case and when they forward it to MAD. Within 7-10 days after MAD receives your paperwork you should receive Packet 3 from them. If you think it's taking too long to get your Packet 3 from MAD, you can email them at ivmadrid@state.gov and they should get back to you. In our case it seemed like MAD had received our paperwork and sat on it before they sent Packet 3 (our experience only). The only thing you need to send back to MAD before your interview is DS230 (Part I) and a signed copy of the checklist that they send you as part of Packet 3. We first sent the DS230 back and then once we had everything else ready we sent the checklist back. Once we sent the checklist back, we got another notice from MAD with the interview date (took about 10 days).

If you want to read about our interview experience, visit the Spain portal (under consulate reviews) for a summary in English or go here for a summary in Spanish.

If you have any other questions, just let us know. We've gotten a lot from the folks in this forum and would like to help out where we can.

Hello there Jimmy, thank u so much for a very useful info. I would like to ask how did u sent the DS230 by mail? Correos? Or Courier here like dhl or usps.. Another question can i schedule my medical ahead of time before the interview date? Bcoz mostly i read about like the pick up time of medical exam result is about 12:30 and if will took u 20 minutes to walked thru embassy and the interview time is 1:00.. I prefer a date that i wont rushed up, pick up the result and the next day just go directly an hour before the interview.

Another question: what documents they require in Madrid Embassy Checklist.? I got here what are usually asked in other country, i dont know about MAD.

Thank u thank u...

We sent everything to the embassy via correos and we didn't have any problems. Things seemed to get there rather quickly. The only thing that was done via courier (MRW) was after the interview when the embassy sent the passport w/ K1 visa back to my fiance.

As far as I know the medical exam is good for up to 6 months. Below is a link for a document from one of the places that does the medical exam and it says it is good for 6 months. In the pdf from the clinic it says you need the paper from packet 3 to do the medical exam, but I would call them and see if you actually need it for them to give you an appointment. If you live in Madrid or are going to be there, it would make sense to give yourself more time to do the exam and pick up the results without being rushed. My fiance did it the day before the interview to avoid having to go to Madrid twice.

PDF from clinic

The checklist has the following items

DS156

DS157

DS156K

Passport

Birth Certificate

Passport photos

Marriage/Divorce Certificates (if any)

Proof of relationship

Police certificate

Military service (if applicable)

I-134 w/ proof

Translations if any documents are not in Spanish or English

Medical exam

I imagine you can pay the fee whenever you want, but I would wait until you get packet 3 or at least know that the embassy has received your packet. Same with the medical. Our case took a long time to get to NVC and then it took a long time for MAD to send packet 3. So to be on the safe side, I would wait until you're stuff makes it to MAD. Once you know that your case has left NVC, you can email MAD at ivmadrid@state.gov to see if they've received it.

To pay the fee at the bank, all you really need is the account number for the embassy and your passport.

I hope your case moves along quickly from here, so far it appears that it has. Let me know if you have any other questions.
