Ok, so I know Romania is not yet a part of the EU but if it is by summer 2007 does anyone know if I will need a visa? What kind? How do I apply and where? I know its eight months away but when there is so much to do time flies.

Being a part of the EU or not I don't believe is the determinant factor.... Do they require one now? If so they may still then.... Impossibe to predict

YMMV

I think it is something worth looking into. I checked out Greece already. What they require from the USC is a certified copy of birth and divorce papers (if divorced) and have Greek translation with the Apostile seal on it. They also require the marriage to be announced in one of their local papers all in Greek characters and the USC has to go to the Embassy and have a sworn affadavit that states that the USC is free to marry, this is produced in English and Greek.

No mention of a visa. But still they have their requirements.

Have you checked the US Emabassy in Bucharest's website? Or the Romanian Embassy website in DC?

YMMV

I found this which I already pretty much knew from kisschick.

http://bucharest.usembassy.gov/US_Citizen_.../Marriages.html

Well, my friend kind of made me think that ALL countries of the EU require the USC to obtain a visa in order to marry there. From what I understand so far from this thread, that is not the case, correct? So even if Romania enters The EU that doesn't mean for sure that I will need a visa. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. That's good enough for me right now. Good enough for me to let my friend he doesn't know everything.

Call or send an email to the Embassy. That is where I got my answers the same day when I sent an email.

I told them I was planning to wed in Greece, that my fiance was a Greek Citizen and I was USC and from there they were very helpful.
