fwiw, kelnjohn got in the auto-expedited queue at USCIS (since she filed from abroad)

and

is currently doing NVC Doc intake.

kelnjohn - thanks so much, for updating yer timeline over at http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=138554 - helps folk here when we try to do triage .

I take the updates as minor accomplishments - so eagerly update :)

And I realise there is little chance either penguin / darnell / anh map or canadian_wife are still keeping track of this topic, but I have literally only JUST now refound it to see the comments.

If you DO happen by, and get to see this again, can I reiterate what you've all just concurred on, that the track we have taken to get to the point we are at, means we MAY NOT, have to even do the I-485 at all?

I hope you'll avoid the urge to tell us to read / research online, because I swear we have done all of that, but are still perplexed on the same stuff. Failing to comprehend the online info, we phoned the NVC, who referred us to the U.S Consulate in our city for the answers we sought, who referred us BACK to the USCIS website, stating all answers were there.

IF at interview stage you're Approved, that still only gives you a greencard allowing entry into the U.S it isnt that we are receiving our permanent residence when the IO *potentially* approves us?

Anyway, as per always, I'm indebted for all your help/advice.

If you are approved at interview, you get a CR-1 visa, not a K3 visa and not a greencard.

When you enter the USA, you will get your greencard. The I-485 will not be needed at any stage.

Wow, so as thought, my husband and I were both incorrect and the greencard = permenant residency. It just all seemed so easy, that we thought it HAD to be more complicated, and there HAS to be stuff we are missing or misinterpreting.

Well, you certainly have eased 2 minds. BTW Penguin, Thanks for keeping abreast of this post, I greatly appreciate your wisdom & knowledge.
